The Department of Homeland Security sees Morses Line as a weak link in the nation’s borders, attractive to terrorists trying to smuggle in lethal materials. Archived from NEWS+VIEWS page JUNE 9, 2009 ---------------- NORTH KOREA RENEWS THREAT OVER SOUTH KOREA ANTI-PROLIFERATION MOVE North Korea Saturday restated that South Korea's decision to join a US-led drive against the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction was a ‘declaration of war,’ a report said. Within days of Pyongyang's detonation of a second nuclear bomb on May 25, Seoul said it would join Washington's Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI), a move that incensed North Korea. ‘South Korea's full participation in the PSI is a wanton violation of the DPRK's (North Korea's) sovereignty and an open declaration of war against it,’ a commentary published in the North's main newspaper, Rodong Sinmun said, reported by South Korea's Yonhap news agency. ‘South Korea will be wholly accountable for the disastrous consequences as it has followed foreign forces in utter disregard of the DPRK's sovereignty and dignity,’ said the commentary. The PSI, launched in 2003 by then president George W. Bush, allows its member countries to interdict airplanes or ships suspected of carrying missiles and other weapons of mass destruction. Earlier Saturday, President Lee Myung-Bak said South Korea would not make any compromises in the face of North Korea's military threats and called for Pyongyang to return to six-party disarmament talks. ‘I hereby make it clear again that there won't be any compromise in issues threatening the lives of the people and national security,’ Lee said at a speech marking Memorial Day to honor the Korean War dead The Last Days Signs - The End Times - Are Upon The Earth!
Archived from NEWS+VIEWS page JUNE 8, 2009 ---------------- U.S. WARNS NORTH KOREA OVER TERROR LIST The US is considering reinstating North Korea on its list of states viewed as sponsors of terrorism, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has said. North Korea was removed from the list in October 2008 after it began disabling a nuclear reactor, but has since carried out a nuclear test. Mrs. Clinton told ABC News the reason for being removed from the list ‘is being thwarted by their actions’. Meanwhile, one son of Kim Jong-il says his brother may be named as successor. Kim Jong-nam, the North Korean leader's eldest son, was asked by Japanese broadcaster NTV whether his younger brother Kim Jong-un would succeed his father. ‘I think so. I hear this news by media,’ he said in reply. In the interview, which NTV said was conducted in Macau, Kim Jong-nam, 37, said in English: ‘The appointment of a successor is totally my father's decision.’ North Korea raised regional tension last month by declaring it had conducted a nuclear test, firing short-range missiles and issuing threats to its neighbour, South Korea. Some US senators called for President Barack Obama to reinstate North Korea on the terror list. Speaking on Sunday, Mrs. Clinton said of that suggestion: ‘Well, we're going to look at it. Ayman al-Zawahiri said Mr. Obama's ‘bloody messages’ would not be concealed by ‘polished words’. The US president is due to make a major speech on relations with the Muslim world in Egypt later this week. The authenticity of the audio message, posted on a website linked to al-Qaeda, could not immediately be confirmed. The Egyptian-born Ayman al-Zawahiri is often referred to as Osama Bin Laden's right-hand man and al-Qaeda's chief ideologue. The al-Qaeda number two said Mr. Obama would not be welcome in Egypt, and referred to US campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan. Mr. Obama's ‘bloody messages have been received and are still being received and they will not be covered by public relations campaigns or theatrical visits or polished words’, he said. He called Mr. Obama ‘that criminal who came seeking, with deception, to obtain what he failed to achieve on the ground after the mujahideen ruined the project of the Crusader America in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Somalia’. Archived from NEWS+VIEWS page JUNE 2, 2009 ---------------- AL-QAEDA SPREADS ITS TENTACLES Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda network is seizing a greater role behind the scenes in Afghanistan and Pakistan in an effort that could block the Barack Obama administration's stated goal of denying the terror network sanctuary in South Asia. A three-month investigation of al-Qaeda's activities, from Nuristan in the north to Paktika in the southeast, suggests that bin Laden's terror network - working through Afghan and Pakistani partners - is present in almost every Afghan and Pakistani province along the fluid border areas between the two countries. Interviews with US military commanders and American radio intercepts of Arab and Chechen fighters as well as confirmed captures or kills of foreign fighters inside Afghanistan bolster the findings. More alarming to Western terrorism analysts and US commanders, however, is the recognition that al-Qaeda has succeeded in goading its regional partners into accepting the idea of a ‘two-front-war’ against US-North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) forces in Afghanistan and the government in Pakistan. That war in turn guarantees bin Laden's network permanent safe havens along the porous border between the two nations, from which it can plan larger international terrorist attacks. The U.S. military said the men were captured Saturday in a residence near the city of Mosul during an operation with the Iraqi military. Officials said the men are part of an al-Qaida cell led by Abu Khalaf. Earlier this week, the U.S. government moved to freeze Khalaf's assets, charging that he was responsible for funneling weapons, cash and suicide bombers from Syria into Iraq. Archived from NEWS+VIEWS page April 21, 2009 ---------------- INTELLIGENCE REPORT: IRAN WILL USE LATIN AMERICA TO ATTACK US, ISRAEL Just two days after US President Barack Hussein Obama shared a controversial and landmark handshake with Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez at the Summit of the Americas, the Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center has released a study analyzing the flowering alliance between the increasingly anti-Western Latin America and the virulently anti-Israel Iran. The study was conducted at the Israel Intelligence Heritage & Commemoration Center (IICC), a non-governmental organization dedicated to Israeli intelligence and terrorism issues. According to the study, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is using anti-Western Hugo Chavez as a springboard into several Latin American countries, such as Bolivia, Nicaragua, and Ecuador, where he intends to establish a religious, terrorist, political and economic foothold in South America. Iran has already made major inroads in its relationship with Venezuela and Bolivia, largely based on shared anti-American sentiments. Iran will utilize this developing relationship to challenge the United States, parts of Asia, and Africa, said the study. The Islamic Republic will also leverage petrodollars and Muslim operatives positioned throughout key Latin American countries to implement a radical anti-Western agenda, fight America's anti-nuclear policy, and to slash international economic sanctions according to the IICC. In addition, the report warns that Iran may launch anti-American and anti-Israel terror attacks through intelligence and terror networks in South American countries. Ahmadinejad, who hosted a ‘World Without Zionism’ conference in 2005, promoting his goal to ‘wipe Israel off the map’, has already succeeded in wounding Israeli diplomatic relations in the region, with Israel's diplomatic core being forced out of Chavez's Venezuela and Bolivia during the anti-terror Operation Cast Lead in January 2009. Khomeini-inspired Shi'ite Islamic and Iranian revolutionary propaganda is being exported by Iran into non-Muslim and Muslim communities in Latin America, in large part through its terror proxy, Hizbullah, which is raising funds for operation by uniting with South American drug and crime cartels. The official said Egypt has all the means to punish Hezbollah, adding that ‘this can be done by a series of measures.’ On Tuesday al-Ahram reported that Hezbollah operatives arrested in Egypt had planned to simultaneously strike three tourist hubs in Sinai frequented by Israelis - Taba, Nuweiba, and Dahab. The daily said the Hezbollah members also gathered information on the presence of Israeli tourists in the town of Hurghada, which lies on the Red Sea coast. Archived from NEWS+VIEWS page April 10, 2009 ---------------- 'IRAN BEHIND HEZBOLLAH BID TO STRIKE EGYPT TARGETS' Iran was behind the planning of terror attacks against targets in Egypt by Hezbollah operatives, the Egyptian daily Al-Ahram quoted a senior official in Cairo as saying Thursday. Two employees of an Iranian satellite TV channel planned the attacks, the paper said, which were meant to be carried out simultaneously at a number of locations across the country. According to Al-Ahram, the code-name for the attacks was mentioned in the last speech delivered by Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. The report came after Egypt's attorney general announced Wednesday that 49 agents of the Lebanese militant group had been arrested on suspicion of carrying out hostile operations. The government statement said that the men were looking to destabilize Egypt's general security. Archived from NEWS+VIEWS page February 27, 2009 ---------------- IRAN ASSUMING MUGHNIYEH ROLE INSIDE HEZBOLLAH Iran has been increasing its involvement and control over Hezbollah's operations since terror operations head Imad Mughniyeh was killed a year ago. Hezbollah has not yet found someone of similar stature to replace Mughniyeh. Therefore, the Iranians have taken some responsibility for Hezbollah operations, using a large number of Iranian Revolutionary Guard and intelligence officers in Lebanon. This means operational cooperation between Iran, Syria and Hezbollah has increased regarding all potential actions against Israel. Iranian officers, most of whom prefer to be based in Syria, often visit Lebanon and tour the Israeli border. The Iranians are directly involved in running Hezbollah operations in southern Lebanon, and in addition, hundreds of Hezbollah militants head for Iran every month for training and exercises. Senior Israeli defense officials told Haaretz that Mughniyeh's assassination, which Hezbollah blames on Israel, left a large hole in the organization. Hezbollah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah is now stuck dealing with operational matters he never handled in the past, say the Israeli officials. Nasrallah has much less knowledge and experience on these matters than Mughniyeh, who was very careful about secrecy and compartmentalization of information. The militant leader in a recording posted on the internet on Monday also called on Muslims in Yemen, Afghanistan and Somalia to press ahead with fighting ‘crusaders’ – a term used to denote the West – and their agents. ‘Israel's Arab aides are trying to impose a calm (truce) on the people of Gaza to stop their jihad ... I tell our brothers and folk in Gaza that jihad to liberate Palestine and all Islamic land should not stop,’ Ayman al-Zawahri said. Egypt has been negotiating a truce between Hamas, which controls Gaza, and Israel following an Israeli offensive late in December in the coastal strip to punish Hamas for firing rockets at Israeli towns. About 1,300 Palestinians were killed. ‘I reaffirm to our brothers the fighters in Gaza and everywhere that the mujahideen against crusaders in various battle zones are willing to give their brothers in Gaza and everywhere training and preparation,’ said Zawahri. Interpol says the scope of its global alert is unprecedented. The "orange alert," issued on Tuesday, comes after Saudi Arabia asked for Interpol's help last week in apprehending the 83 Saudis and two Yemenis. Interpol Secretary General Ronald Noble said the alert is unprecedented. "Never before has Interpol been asked to alert the world about so many dangerous fugitives at one time," Noble said in a news release.
