A case has been launched in the Court of Appeal for Great Britain over a rule imposed by British Airways on employees allowing Muslims to wear a hijab, Jews to wear skullcaps, Sikhs to wear religious bracelets but banning a Christian woman from wearing a tiny silver cross necklace. Nadia Eweida is attempting to overturn an employment tribunal's decision that the airline's actions were not religious discrimination. Manghan said Eweida "wished at the material times to wear a small, plain, silver cross visibly as a manifestation of her beliefs and personal expression of her faith." British Airways, she added, "permitted adherents of other religious faiths to express their beliefs through certain visible symbols, such as the Sikh bracelet, the Jewish skull cap and the Muslim hijab."

Archived from NEWS+VIEWS page September 4, 2009 ------ Chinese gov't displaces thousands of Christians A secret Chinese directive calls for the destruction of six major house churches. The directive was uncovered by China Aid Association (CAA). The secret order calls for the six house churches to be dismantled by the end of August. The churches are large, some with more than 1,000 members. Annee Kahler, a spokesperson for CAA, says the move is seen as the first step by the Chinese government to crack down on house churches in Beijing. She believes it will be tough for Christians to find other houses of worship. "In America we have a church on every street corner. It's easy to kind of lose sight of the fact that it is a tremendous honor and privilege for many people to have a house of worship," she notes. "This is a big deal. It's not like you can just move down the street to the next house because that house will also be under fire." CAA is encouraging the Chinese government to revoke the secret directive.
Archived from NEWS+VIEWS page August 28, 2009 ------ MEXICO: ‘TRADITIONALIST CATHOLICS’ ATTACK, EXPEL CHRISTIANS “Traditionalist Catholic” leaders last month expelled 57 evangelical Christians from towns in two states for refusing to participate in their religious festivals. Leaders of traditionalist Catholicism, a mixture of Roman Catholicism and native rituals, expelled 32 Christians from their homes in a village in Hidalgo state and another 25 from a town in Oaxaca; in each case, the evangelicals were deprived of their property for refusing to participate in drunken festivals that included worship of Catholic icons. Hundreds of evangelical Christians from six states of Mexico organized a caravan on Aug. 10 on behalf of the 32 evangelicals from Los Parajes, near Huejutla in Hidalgo state, who were violently torn from their homes on July 13 when the town’s traditionalist Catholic leaders struck them with machetes and ropes. They were forced to leave behind 121 acres of land planted with crops, as well as their homes and animals. The Christians had reached an agreement with the community in February allowing them to choose to follow their own faith, but when Enedino Luna Cruz became town leader he burned the document, according to the evangelicals. In the southwestern state of Oaxaca, in the Yavelotzi community near San Jacinto, 25 Christians were threatened and expelled from their homes on July 17, also for refusing to participate in drunken festivals and worship of Catholic icons, according to Christian support organization Open Doors.

Gerald Marsazalek has coached wrestling for 35 years at Dearborn Public Schools, amassing more than 450 wins and, in addition to being added to the Michigan High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame, was named "Sportsman of the Year" by the All-American Athletic Association. Despite Marsazalek's success, however, Principal Imad Fadlallah of Dearborn's Fordson High School ordered the administration not to renew the coach's contract, allegedly in retaliation over the student's conversion and to continue a campaign of flushing Christianity out of the school. Michael Roberts, Rich's lawyer, said the blogs were not threatening. Roberts said Rich was basically banned from the church after church officials learned his identity and filed a trespass warning with JSO. Rich declined an on camera interview but said on his blog, "I desire through this lawsuit that an equally powerful message will be sent to influential church trustees and powerful pastors who seek to squelch dissent of their members through unbiblical bullying and intimidation tactics." The church released a statement saying, "The congregation and leadership of the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville is disappointed and saddened that Mr. Rich has chosen to seek resolution of His disagreements with the Church via the Court of Law. Despite numerous efforts by the church to facilitate resolution privately and in accordance with Holy Scripture, Mr. Rich has been unwilling to participate. Having made every effort to settle this matter biblically, the Church stands ready to have the matter addressed according to law, though this is not, and never has been our desire." The lawsuit claims the pastor and the church committed fraud and misrepresented events. It also claims the pastor made malicious and false statements about Rich, including calling him "obsessive compulsive" and "a sociopath." Rich's attorney is seeking some kind of monetary compensation for "mental anguish" and "emotional distress" but the attorney said it's too early to say a specific amount. ***WATCHMAN...Proving that Mr. Rich is NO CHRISTIAN... Clackamas County Circuit Judge Steven Maurer sent them home to get away from the process for a while. When they returned, jurors started discussing the case in more personal terms and finding common ground, Ashlee Santos, the presiding juror in the case, explained. "Granted, they didn't take her (Ava) to the hospital, but it was truly because they thought she was getting better," Santos said. "That was the best epiphany moment." After a full week of deliberations, jurors announced that they had broken their impasse and reached a verdict on all counts. Raylene Worthington was acquitted of both charges, second-degree manslaughter and criminal mistreatment, and Carl Worthington was convicted only on the lesser charge, a misdemeanor. He will be sentenced July 31. The Last Days Signs - The End Times - Are Upon The Earth! Archived from NEWS+VIEWS page JULY 17, 2009 ------- Dems sneaking 'hate crimes' through on soldiers' bill? Democrats are expected to sneak the hate crimes bill through the Senate after they offered it as an amendment to the Defense Authorization bill. The Senate approved the same hate crime legislation last year as part of the military funding bill, but it was never reconciled with the House's bill. The current House version – H.R. 1913, or the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009 – was passed April 29 and referred to the Senate Committee on the Judiciary. Now the Senate is considering the military appropriations bill, or S.1390, and the Senate "hate crimes" act, or S. 909, may be passed as an amendment soon. The "hate crimes" legislation now faces its best chance in years to become federal law. Sen. John McCain, R.-Ariz, blasted the hate crimes amendment, saying it is unrelated to the defense bill. The hate crimes legislation adds gender, gender identity and sexual orientation to a list of protected categories under federal hate crimes law. U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder admitted a homosexual activist who is attacked following a Christian minister's sermon about homosexuality would be protected by the proposed federal law, but a minister attacked by a homosexual wouldn't be. Archived from NEWS+VIEWS page JULY 16, 2009 ------- ‘Keep God out of Soccer’ — Fifa tells Brazil’s superstars Football’s governing body has sparked controversy after disciplining the Brazilian team for overt displays of Christianity during a match. Stars including Real Madrid forward Kaka and captain Lucio revealed T-shirts with devout slogans such as “I Belong to Jesus” and “I Love God” during the Confederations Cup final last month. Now Fifa has risked accusations of being ‘anti-religious’ by reminding Brazil of its guidelines banning players from making displays of a personal, religious or political nature on the football pitch. AC Milan star Kaka and his Brazilian teammates have been told to stop making overt displays of their Christianity during matches. A warning letter was sent to the Brazilian football federation “to remind them of the relevant regulations, so that such incidents do not recur in the future”. Brazilian players, and Kaka in particular, are well-known for their strong religious beliefs and the squad and backroom staff formed a large circle and sank to their knees in prayer after the victory over the US at the end of last month. In the subsequent team photographs, many players were wearing the Christian T-shirts, with captain Lucio prominent as he lifted the trophy. But Brazil’s display of faith had an extra element of controversy because most of the players are Pentecostalists, whose leaders have been accused of violating religious freedom by attacking those of other faiths. In the light of Brazil’s high-profile display of faith, seen around the world by millions of television viewers, the head of football in Denmark wants all religious statements banned from football. Jim Stjerne Hansen, secretary general of the Danish football association, said: “Just as we reject political manifestations, we should also say no to religious ones. There are too many risks involved in clubs, for example, with people of different religious faiths.” Young Watchman-- Take God out of Soccer you say. Well If I were a player, I would leave the FIFA. Archived from NEWS+VIEWS page JUNE 18, 2009 ------- PBS TO BEGIN PHASING OUT RELIGIOUS PROGRAMMING FROM AIRWAVES PBS board members, who for 25 years have turned a blind eye to religious programming at some of their member stations' religious programming, have decided to enforce a rule banning the broadcasts -- a move that spells the beginning of the end for religious shows on public television. Six PBS stations currently broadcast ‘sectarian’ programs produced by local religious groups, including the morning ‘Mass for Shut-Ins,’ which is popular among elderly and ailing Catholics who cannot attend the daily service. Under the terms of a decision reached by the PBS board Tuesday, those stations can retain their current shows. And all stations can air programs and documentaries that cover sacred topics -- even a newsworthy service, like a papal Mass. But no new religious shows can be offered, and none of the 350 other stations may air any purely spiritual content, a move some groups say is a quiet means of phasing out religion from their airwaves. ‘PBS' goal is to not have religious programming on PBS affiliates of what we call 'pure' religious (content)’ such as Masses or devotional readings, said Susan Briggs, director of Communications for the Catholic Archdiocese of Washington. PBS now will begin enforcing its rule -- on the books since 1985, but never rigorously enforced -- that all stations provide non-commercial, non-partisan and non-sectarian content. That means no ads, no political advocacy -- and, after Tuesday, no new religious transmissions. Early fallout from the board meeting came even before its decision was reached. A PBS affiliate in D.C., Howard University's WHUT, decided to cancel the weekly Mass it had aired for 13 years by the end of July to avoid violating membership criteria… Federal law does not bar showing the services on public television, but PBS worries that the broadcasts have the appearance of an official endorsement from the network. Allowing such programming to air ‘would cause the public's trust in PBS to erode, along with the value of the brand,’ argued its Stations Services Committee, according to a report in the Current. The committee, which is made up of representatives from local networks, reviewed PBS' by-laws for the past 18 months to help move it into the digital era, and it authored the compromise embraced by the board, a PBS spokeswoman told. But the decision is not being welcomed by critics, who say that funding the stations and allowing them to broadcast devotional services amounts to paying for evangelism. ‘There is some tax funding involved in public television, and that does make this shade into a church-and-state issue, because in general, we don't use tax dollars to promote sectarian programs,’ said the Rev. Barry Lynn, executive director of Americans United for the Separation of Church and State. ‘What creates problems is when you have taxpayers directly or indirectly subsidizing evangelism,’ he said in an interview ahead of the board hearing. Religious groups say the programs provide a community service and reflect the makeup and interests of the cities that offer them, and that they are enjoyed by people of different religious persuasions, and even of no persuasion at all The Last Days Signs - The End Times - Are Upon The Earth!

The violence is nothing new in Orissa, India, where India's Communist Party estimates that more than 500 Christians have been killed by Hindu mobs in Orissa since late August, 12 times more than official government claims of only 40 homicides. But now the stakes are even higher – and pastors have a bounty on their heads. Faiz Rahman, chairman of Good News India, said Hindu militants are targeting Christian leaders, the Christian Post reported. ‘The going price to kill a pastor is $250,’ he said. Rahman, a head of several orphanages in Orissa State, said he's helped 25 pastors to leave refugee camps, but 250 Christian leaders are still in shelters. ‘All of the pastors are high value targets,’ Rahman told the UK-based Release International. ‘We've got to get them out of the refugee camps.’ An All-India Christian Council spokesman said, ‘People are being offered rewards to kill, and to destroy churches and Christian properties. They are being offered foreign liquor, chicken, mutton and weapons. They are given petrol and kerosene.’ One official said he personally authorized ‘cremation of more than 200 bodies’ found in jungles after Christians were blamed for the death of Hindu leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati on Aug. 24. They continue to be persecuted even though Maoists openly admitted to murdering Saraswati. Thousands of homes and churches have been destroyed, and an estimated 50,000 Christians have been forced to flee the violence. She recently moved from Kandahar back to Kabul because it was seen as safer. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the shooting, which took place at 8am local time. Archived from NEWS+VIEWS page October 19, 2008 ------- CONVERT OR WE WILL KILL YOU, HINDU LYNCH MOBS TELL FLEEING CHRISTIANS Hundreds of Christians in the Indian state of Orissa have been forced to renounce their religion and become Hindus after lynch mobs issued them with a stark ultimatum: convert or die. The wave of forced conversions marks a dramatic escalation in a two-month orgy of sectarian violence which has left at least 59 people dead, 50,000 homeless and thousands of houses and churches burnt to the ground. As neighbor has turned on neighbor, thousands more Christians have sought sanctuary in refugee camps, unable to return to the wreckage of their homes unless they, too, agree to abandon their faith. Last week, in the worst-affected Kandhamal district, The Observer encountered compelling evidence of the scale of the violence employed in a conversion program apparently sanctioned by members of one of the most powerful Hindu groups in India, the 6.8-million member Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) - the World Hindu Council. Standing in the ashes of her neighbour's house in the village of Sarangagada, Jaspina Naik, 32, spoke nervously, glancing towards a group of Hindu men watching her suspiciously. 'My neighbours said, "If you go on being Christians, we will burn your houses and your children in front of you, so make up your minds quickly",' she said. 'I was scared. Christians have no place in this area now.' On her forehead, she wore a gash of vermilion denoting a married Hindu woman, placed there by the priest at the conversion ceremony she had been obliged to attend a day earlier, along with her husband and three young children. 'I'm totally broken,' she said. 'I have always been a Christian. Inside I am still praying for Jesus to give me peace and to take me out of this situation.' She and her neighbor, Kumari Naik, 35, gazed forlornly at the charred remains of the house. The mob that arrived one evening in the first week of the violence, armed with swords and axes, had looted what they wanted before dousing the building with petrol and setting it alight. Kumari had fled into the nearby forest with her husband, Umesh, and 14-year-old son Santosh. A smoke-damaged child's drawing of Mickey Mouse pinned to one wall was all that remained of their former lives. Shattered roof tiles crunched underfoot as the women moved through the blackened rooms. The priest had given them cow dung to eat during the ceremony, they said, telling them it would purify them. 'We were doing that, but we were crying,' Jaspina said… Relations between the Hindu and Christian communities were already at a low ebb when the killing of VHP leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati on 23 August provided the trigger for the current wave of violence. The VHP blamed Christians and the mobs descended on the homes of neighbours and friends. Those who were too slow to get away were killed. Amid the savagery, two incidents stood out: a young Hindu woman working in a Christian orphanage was burnt alive and a nun was gang-raped. Yet the VHP is unrepentant and appears to be involved, at least at grassroots level, with the campaign of forced conversions. One priest who converted 18 Christians in the village of Sankarakhole last week told The Observer that he had been approached by local VHP representatives to carry out the ceremony. 'The VHP people came with letters that said they wanted to be converted, so I converted them,' said Preti Singh Patra, who is the brother of a senior VHP official. Crouching on the ground in front of his temple, set in a small walled garden beneath a huge banyan tree, he ran through the details of the ceremony: first some fruit to eat, followed by a mixture of cow dung and urine mixed with milk and curd, a dip in water from the Ganges, an hour of prayers and then the painting of a bindi on the forehead. Some local men stepped forward to speak to him. 'Don't say too much,' they warned. The priest seemed unconcerned. The 18 had been the only Christians in the village, he said. They were happy to convert The Last Days Signs - The End Times - Are Upon The Earth!

Tens of thousands of Chaldean Catholics and Assyrian Orthodox faithful live in the city despite its reputation as the last bastion of al-Qaeda in Iraq. The city, which is located near biblical Nineveh, is also on the fractious faultline of Arabs and Kurds. Baghdad has ordered heavy police reinforcements to staunch the flight from Mosul to the safer havens of nearby Kurdish cities. A series of a dozen murders over the last few weeks has forced over 1,000 families to flee. America condemned the attacks against Christians, where a surge in violence against the community has provoked a mass exodus. ‘The US embassy in Baghdad condemns the recent attacks against Iraqis in cities such as Baghdad and Nineveh, including those attacks targeting Christian communities in Mosul,’ a statement said. ‘The terrorist groups responsible for these attacks have shown again that their enemy is the Iraqi civilian population. ‘They are seeking to create divisions among Iraqi communities and undermine the progress Iraq is making in building an inclusive, democratic and prosperous society.’ US-led forces have deployed with Iraqi security forces to respond to changing tactics by insurgent groups and foster improved security for the province of Nineveh, of which Mosul is the capital. An Iraqi government envoy and the Nineveh operations centre commander have met local Christian leaders in the two Christian neighborhoods of Mosul, Bartolla and Hamdaniyah, a US statement said. Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki has pledged to take all steps necessary to defend the threatened community. Christian leaders have lobbied parliament to pass a law setting aside a quota of seats in upcoming provincial elections, fearing they could be further marginalized in the predominantly Muslim country. The UN representative in Iraq, Staffan de Mistura expressed concern ‘at the spike in violence that has targeted the Christian communities in recent days’ and warned the attacks were seeking to ‘fuel tensions and exacerbate instability at a critical time.’ Islamic extremists have frequently targeted Christians since the 2003 invasion, forcing tens of thousands to flee the country ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, HINDU THREAT TO CHRISTIANS: CONVERT OR FLEE The family of Solomon Digal was summoned by neighbors to what serves as a public square in front of the village tea shop. They were ordered to get on their knees and bow before the portrait of a Hindu preacher. They were told to turn over their Bibles, hymnals and the two brightly colored calendar images of Christ that hung on their wall. Then, Mr. Digal, 45, a Christian since childhood, was forced to watch his Hindu neighbors set the items on fire. ‘ ‘Embrace Hinduism, and your house will not be demolished,’ ‘ Mr. Digal recalled being told on that Wednesday afternoon in September. ‘ ‘Otherwise, you will be killed, or you will be thrown out of the village.’ ‘ India, the world’s most populous democracy and officially a secular nation, is today haunted by a stark assault on one of its fundamental freedoms. Here in eastern Orissa State, riven by six weeks of religious clashes, Christian families like the Digals say they are being forced to abandon their faith in exchange for their safety. The forced conversions come amid widening attacks on Christians here and in at least five other states across the country, as India prepares for national elections next spring. The clash of faiths has cut a wide swath of panic and destruction through these once quiet hamlets fed by paddy fields and jackfruit trees. Here in Kandhamal, the district that has seen the greatest violence, more than 30 people have been killed, 3,000 homes burned and over 130 churches destroyed, including the tin-roofed Baptist prayer hall where the Digals worshiped. Today it is a heap of rubble on an empty field, where cows blithely graze. Across this ghastly terrain lie the singed remains of mud-and-thatch homes. Christian-owned businesses have been systematically attacked. Orange flags (orange is the sacred color of Hinduism) flutter triumphantly above the rooftops of houses and storefronts. India is no stranger to religious violence between Christians, who make up about 2 percent of the population, and India’s Hindu-majority of 1.1 billion people. But this most recent spasm is the most intense in years. It was set off, people here say, by the killing on Aug. 23 of a charismatic Hindu preacher known as Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati, who for 40 years had rallied the area’s people to choose Hinduism over Christianity. The police have blamed Maoist guerrillas for the swami’s killing. But Hindu radicals continue to hold Christians responsible The Last Days Signs - The End Times - Are Upon The Earth!

Two Iranian Christians have officially been charged with “apostasy,” or leaving Islam, as a draft law making the death penalty mandatory for those convicted of the charge is set to be debated in Iran’s Parliament. Mahmood Matin Azad, 52, and Arash Basirat (previously reported Bandari), 44, have been in prison since May 15, when they were arrested in Shiraz. When their lawyer went to authorities to inquire about the case in early August, he was informed that the two men had been formally charged with apostasy, sources confirmed to Compass. At that time authorities gave the lawyer an official document stating that the formal charge of “apostasy” was based on the men’s confessions during interrogation. The “Interrogation Note – Investigator’s Final Order” said that their “culpability order” was based on Article 214 of the penal code and sections of the late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini’s treatise on legal affairs, the Tahrir ol Vassileh. Iran’s legal system is based on sharia (Islamic law). Previous charges of “Propaganda Against the Islamic Republic of Iran” had been dropped, according to the statement. Sources who spoke to the lawyer explained that authorities generally do not issue written statements, and that this was an indication of the severity and complexity of the case. Archived from NEWS+VIEWS page APRIL 29, 2008 -------------------------Last day to save Christian radio? FCC rule change seen as threat to licenses of religious stations Yesterday was the last day for public comments on a proposed Federal Communications Commission rule change some say would threaten the licenses of Christian radio stations from coast to coast. At issue is a proposal that would require every radio station to take programming advice from community advisory boards representative of the area's population. Advocates of Christian programming say that would require Christian broadcasters to seek advice from non-Christians and even those opposed to the Christian message. Some radio stations fear organized groups of atheists, for instance, could demand representation on the new FCC-mandated advisory boards that would factor into licensing decisions. "While the FCC is considering these rule changes, at the moment nothing is 'set in stone' as they await public comment," explains the Christian Air 1 Radio Network. "If any of these changes were adopted, there would be significant impact on our ability to minister to you and your community. These rules would not only affect our stations but also thousands of stations around the country." In addition to the requirement for advisory boards, the new regulations would also mandate radio stations produce every three months reports on how much programming of various types has been broadcast, who produced it and how it reflects the interests of the community – including segments who do not approve of or share Christian values. The National Association of Broadcasters, which opposes the rule change, offers an online form for making comments on the FCC rule change – but the deadline is today. All comments must be filed under the assigned docket number No. 04-233, meaning that number must be included in all communications about the proposed rule change to be considered by the FCC. The NAB is advising its member stations to tell the FCC why the rule change is counter-productive – that it would pressure broadcasters to air programming that is not necessarily commercially viable. The group also suggests the FCC rule change would mandate programming quotas. Broadcasters don't like another element of the rule change – one that would require stations to have at least one employee on duty during all hours of operation. Breakthroughs in automated programming have made that unnecessary in recent years, so the rule change would mean more expense for some smaller-market stations. Last week, FCC Commissioner Robert McDowell questioned the need to turn back the clock with such a rule change. In a speech before the Quello Communications Law and Policy Symposium, McDowell cited the proliferation of competing communications opportunities on the Internet, through cable television channels and other venues. Given the media choices available, he questioned why "policymakers like us at the FCC" are dusting off decades-old regulations to impose on broadcasters. "Why are we considering placing these proverbial albatrosses around the necks of traditional media precisely at this 'tipping point' in history when they can least afford a regulatory disadvantage vis-ŕ-vis unregulated platforms like the Internet?" he asked. The potential Orwellian implications of such policies are chilling, the commissioner argued. ........................... "The Constitution prohibits the state from forcing unwilling people to promote a message they disagree with and thereby violate there conscience," said Jordan Lorence, senior counsel with the Alliance Defense Fund, which is working on an appeal. "The commission's decision shows stunning disregard for our client's First Amendment rights, and we will appeal…," he said. The case before the New Mexico Human Rights Commission was brought by Vanessa Willock against Elane Photography LLC, which is run by owners Jon and Elaine Huguenin. The couple that included Willock approached Elaine Huguenin and wanted the Huguenins to photograph a "commitment ceremony" the women wanted to hold. "Huguenin declined because her Christian beliefs are in conflict with the message communicated by the ceremony," according to the law firm. Willock then alleged she was a victim of "discrimination" because of her sexual orientation, and brought the complaint before the state agency. The ADF, however, said the case will be appealed because of the significance of the constitutional issue at stake. "The constitutional right of Americans to refrain from participating in a ceremony or other event because their sincerely held religious beliefs conflict with its message is at stake," the organization said. "Christians could be forced to advocate for viewpoints with which they disagree or to participate in events that violate their conscience." The Last Days Signs - The End Times - Are Upon The Earth!

He also wrote poems attacking traditional Christianity and the work of Christian missionaries. The “Red Army” poem goes beyond hoping for the communists to beat the Nazis in World War II and hails the Soviet revolution. It says: “Show the marveling multitudes Americans, British, all your allied brothers How strong you are How great you are How your young tree of new unity Planted twenty-five years ago Bears today the golden fruit of victory!” One Davis poem, “Christ is a Dixie Nigger,” dismisses Christ as “another New White Hope” and declares: “Remember this, you wise guys Your tales about Jesus of Nazareth are no-go with me I’ve got a dozen Christs in Dixie all bloody and black…” The revelations about Davis’ poetry will add to the controversy over what kind of role Davis played in shaping Obama’s political views. Davis (1905-1987) seems to have had the same kind of anti-American outlook that animated Obama’s longtime pastor, Jeremiah Wright. In fact, Davis was pro-Soviet, not just anti-American. The controversial poems are included in the book, Black Moods, a collection edited by John Edgar Tidwell, a professor at the University of Kansas and expert on Davis’s writings and career. He confirms that Davis joined the Communist Party but that he publicly tried to deny his communist affiliations. The Last Days Signs - The End Times - Are Upon The Earth!
Archived from NEWS+VIEWS page APRIL 4, 2008 -------------------------Thousands rally in Oklahoma for biblical marriage Support state lawmaker who says homosexuality dangerous An estimated 2,000 people gathered today in Oklahoma City to rally support for state Rep. Sally Kern, R-Oklahoma City, who has been the target of a campaign organized by pro-homosexual interests to inundate her e-mail with tens of thousands of messages, many profane, vulgar and threatening. We previously reported when the case first developed Oklahoma police were investigating threats e-mailed to Kern because of her remarks to a Republican meeting that warned of the homosexual community's growing influence. Her statements were taped secretly and posted in a YouTube production prepared by the Victory Fund, an ardently pro-homosexual lobby that by its own admission "provides strategic, technical and financial support" to homosexual politicians. The video pieced together audio of Kern's comments with slides of statements condemning her speech as well as photographs of various individuals holding "I heard that" signs. She said earlier that she had received in excess of 30,000 e-mails, many vulgar, abusive and hateful. Her life was threatened, her son falsely accused of being homosexual and her financial supporters harassed, officials reported. But according to a report from officials with Concerned Women for America, today's crowd spilled over onto all levels of the Rotunda at Oklahoma's Capitol in an event sponsored by more than 50 area pastors who have lauded Kern's biblical stand. "This astronomical show of support for Rep. Sally Kern today sends a strong message," said Matt Barber, the policy director for cultural issues at CWA. "People with traditional values who value God's design for human sexuality will not be intimidated and bullied into silence. "Political correctness can never trump truth," he said. "Sally Kern stood for truth, and she was hated for it. She was persecuted for Christ, but the Body of Christ was there to lift her up. Sally was faithful to God, and He was faithful to her in return. This is a great day for all who love righteousness." Linda Caswell, the state director for CWA, said Kern and her husband both talked of the institution of marriage, and expressed forgiveness for those who have been attacking the family with telephone calls around the clock "The homosexuals are saying she called them terrorists. She did not do that. She said she has no hate for anyone," Caswell said. "This is an awesome experience," she said. "Radical homosexual groups have done all they could to intimidate her, yet she has not backed down," said Richard Thompson, president of the Thomas More Law Center, a national Christian public interest law firm based in Ann Arbor, Mich. The organization has agreed to represent her in any actions that need to be pursued because of the attacks. Kern came under fire after she expressed her concern "that the homosexual agenda was destroying our nation, and that young school children were being indoctrinated into believing that the homosexual lifestyle is normal," the law firm said. Kern was quoted as saying the homosexual agenda is dangerous "because it destroys the basic moral fiber of this nation, which is traditional marriage and the traditional family." She couldn't be more right," the CWA said. "There are certainly those who hate Rep. Kern. They've made that perfectly clear with vicious personal attacks and even death threats," Barber said. "But millions of Americans proudly stand alongside Sally Kern and say, 'Thank you. Thank you for boldly standing your ground and for unapologetically defending biblical truth.' "They intended to make an example of her. They have, but not in the way they had hoped. She has set an example for millions of believers around the world. Her courage and refusal to deviate from God's unequivocal condemnation of sexual immorality is serving to galvanize and embolden others. People say, 'Well Sally Kern wasn't intimidated, why should I be?'" Barber said. In a commentary, Faith2Action chief Janet Folger wrote of the "gays' respect and tolerance." Kern had said in the meeting: "What they're trying to do is send a message of intimidation to those people who are taking a stand for traditional marriage and against the homosexual lifestyle. They want to silence us, is what they want to do. And it's happening all over the state. You know, the very fact that I'm talking to you like this, here today, puts me in jeopardy. OK, and so, so be it." Among the few e-mails that soon arrived in Kern's mailbox that could be quoted was, "YOU NAZI FREAK!!!! … YOU MORON!!!!!!!!" Folger reported. About another e-mail, she wrote, "If I dashed out the obscenities in the rest, there wouldn't be anything left except this: '… you stupid dyke.' Now if we said that, we'd be facing charges of 'hate speech.'" She reported even Ellen DeGeneres "joined in the ridicule when she tried to call Kern on her show." We had reported on multiple attempts in Congress to ram through a "hate crimes" plan that would target those who follow biblical teachings that condemn homosexual behavior. Similar laws already have been imposed in Canada, where people have been charged with the crime of criticizing homosexuality. "Her comments represent the view of a majority of Americans," Thompson said. "All you need to do is look at all of the states that have overwhelmingly adopted constitutional amendments or statutes defending traditional marriages from the homosexual agenda. Christians believe that homosexual acts are acts of grave depravity, contrary to the natural law and under no circumstances can they be approved. She said that she's holding up "rather well" under the onslaught the campaign against her has produced. "I have the prayers of the people in my state and cards and e-mails from people all over the country who are supporting me," she said. "I haven't lost any sleep over this." She said the state police investigation actually was launched by another member of the Oklahoma legislature who saw some of the threats contained in e-mails and called authorities. She was told the investigation was continuing. "I stand by my statements. Everything I said I can verify. It is a deadly lifestyle," Kern said. The response to her statements, actually, would surprise few people familiar with the strategies of the homosexual activists, however. In chapter one of his best-selling book "The Marketing of Evil," David Kupelian exposes the powerful marketing strategies used by the "gay rights" movement to "sell" Americans on homosexuality as a healthy alternative lifestyle. One key tactic for accomplishing this is called "jamming." "Jamming is pure intimidation," said Kupelian. "And what homosexual activists are doing right now to Sally Kern is a grotesque case of jamming. Basically, they're trying to silence her by threatening, intimidating, harassing and frightening her until she can't take any more abuse. No dialogue, no debate – just crush her. That's their game. It's despicable, and utterly un-American." ............................. Christian evangelist was arrested, charged with hate crimes, faced decades in prison Philly 'gay'-fest protester's free-speech case revived A Christian evangelist's lawsuit against Philadelphia over police actions to restrict his free speech and religious expression has been reinstated by the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which expressed in its opinion yesterday a grave concern about an "imbalance" in the jury instructions provided by the judge. Michael Marcavage of Repent America sued the police and city in 2004 over seven specific instances in which he said officers and others violated his First Amendment rights to free speech and free expression of religion. It was only a short time later that he and 10 other Christians, known as the Philadelphia 11, proclaimed the biblical Gospel message at the city's 2004 pro-homosexual "Outfest," were arrested and charged with hate crimes, facing a potential penalty of decades in jail. The Philadelphia 11 included (Front, L-R) Arlene Elshinnawy, Susan Startzell, Lauren Murch, Nancy Major, Linda Beckman. (Back, L-R) Gerald Fennell, Mark Diener, Dennis Green, Michael Marcavage, James Cruse, Randall Beckman The criminal charges eventually were dropped entirely, but the civil case seeking a repair in the city's police policies continued. During a 2006 trial, a jury concluded the city's officers had acted appropriately. However, the 3rd Circuit said the courtroom process reaching that result was fatally flawed. Specifically, the trial court misled jurors about the government's obligations, the appeals court said. The court's jury instructions had included: "The defendants in this case claim that any restrictions on plaintiff's activity were restrictions on the time, place, and manner of that activity. I instruct you that the government may impose reasonable time, place, and manner restrictions on First Amendment activity to further significant governmental interests.." The appeals court, however, noted the absence of an instruction telling jurors that the government's ability to set those limits is, itself, limited. "The Supreme Court held that such restrictions must be: (a) justified without reference to the content of the regulated speech; (2) narrowly tailored to serve significant governmental interests, and (3) must leave open alternative channels for communications," the appeal decision said. "The court did not inform the jury of the government's obligation to allow alternative channels of communications. In addition, the jury was not told that a time, place, and manner restriction must be both content-neutral and narrowly tailored." The trial judge's instructions had included an emphasis on "public order," too. "The First Amendment protects speech and other expressive activity in public spaces – all of the activities at issue in this have taken place in public fora," the judge had said. "However, the protections afforded by the First Amendment are not absolute. Principles of religious tolerance do not relieve an individual from complying with the laws of general applicability, so the right of free exercise does not relieve an individual of the right to comply with a valid and neutral law of general applicability. Even though First Amendment rights are to be guarded, they may still be regulated by the state. The constitutional guarantee of liberty implies the existence of an organized society maintaining public order… "In fashioning the charge, the court placed the burden on Marcavage to prove that the defendants' restrictions were content-based. … This belies the Supreme Court's oft-repeated pronouncement that 'when the government restricts speech, the government bears the burden of proving the constitutionality of its actions,'" the ruling said. "Moreover, the court's failure to instruct on the obligation to provide an alternative channel for the speech was never corrected nor mitigated. That omission prevented the jury from determining whether the reasonable restrictions that were imposed allowed an alternative channel for Marcavage's speech. The error is significant because Marcavage contends that the police and city defendants required him to move to locations and that did not allow him an adequate opportunity to have his message reach his target audience… These are questions of fact that must be resolved," the appeals court said. The trial court's instructions also "were not appropriately balanced." Marcavage said that he now has another opportunity for a jury to hear the facts of the case, be given proper instructions and make a determination. He said he's just trying through the action to halt police harassment and interference with his Christian testimony. "What we are trying to do, because of that ongoing issue, the pattern and practice of the Philadelphia police department stopping our testimony, is bring this civil lawsuit so that they would not continue to shut us down," he said. A statement from the law firm working on the case, Shields & Hoppe, LLP, noted that Marcavage for years has been involved in open-air preaching, distributing Gospel literature, sidewalk ministering and sidewalk counseling – all constitutionally protected activities. But the original 2004 lawsuit cited seven different instances in which the city and members of its police department "violated his right to free speech and free exercise of his religious faith." "There is no justification for silencing speech simply because it is considered to be 'unpopular,'" said Ted Hoppe, one of the attorneys. "Harassing and arresting Christians simply because they choose to exercise their First Amendment rights in a public place is unconstitutional." "Parents, taxpayers and concerned citizens must force themselves to read these excerpts, as horrific as they are, so you know what kids are being exposed to. The school justifies this egregious choice because of its themes of hope. Evidently, all great literature with themes of hope have already been exhausted so teachers need to start offering pornography. We say - enough." North Shore Student Advocacy (NSSA), an organization to help parents and students when they run into problems in public schools, was made aware of these books last fall when a parent complained. The books were part of required reading until NSSA filed a formal complaint with the school, asking the books to be reviewed by committee. The committee decided to remove the books from required reading, but continued to offer them in the classroom as an optional title. "Optional Title," according to the principal, means that the student may select the books to study with peers and be guided by the adult, male teacher. A parental permission slip will be required, but without full disclosure of the sexually explicit content. This conclusion is unacceptable to the complaining parent and to NSSA. They are asking that this pornographic book be removed from curriculum completely. The State's Attorney's office of Lake County, Illinois, deemed the books "obscene" according to Illinois obscenity laws, violating the "distributing harmful materials to minors" statute. Archived from NEWS+VIEWS page March 10, 2008 -------------- Preacher on trial for ministering in 'Witch City' Disorderly conduct count pending over street message A "Witch City" trial is scheduled Monday for a street preacher who was arrested and accused of disorderly conduct for expressing his belief in the Gospel of Jesus Christ on a public street in Salem, Mass., on Halloween night in 2007. "Michael [Marcavage] is guilty of nothing more than preaching the Gospel," said Ben DuPre, an attorney with former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore's Foundation for Moral Law, who is representing Marcavage. "The city of Salem does not have the right to arrest Mr. Marcavage simply because his religious message is not welcome there. The police should have been protecting Mr. Marcavage's right to speak instead of targeting him for the Christian content of his speech. Preaching the Gospel is not disorderly conduct, even on Halloween night," he said. Moore's organization, a religious-liberties legal group, is defending Marcavage at trial because the prosecutors still insist his calm delivery of a biblical warning against sin was considered disorderly conduct, even though other boisterous behavior involving others at the same time was not halted. Marcavage earlier had been charged with using an amplified megaphone to deliver the message of love and hope, but that charge was dropped after lawyers documented his arrest at 8:30 p.m. and pointed out that Salem laws allow such amplification until 10 p.m. "Halloween night in Salem is like Mardi Gras in New Orleans," DuPre said. "It's a big sin-fest. That's, of course, why Michael went there. He feels called to deliver the message of the Gospel." The Last Days Signs - The End Times - Are Upon The Earth!

The influential council of Islamic clergy and ulema (scholars) made the warning in a statement during a meeting with President Hamid Karzai on Friday in which it also called for the reintroduction of public executions, which have not taken place since the fall of the Taliban in 2001. "The council is concerned about the activities of some ... missionary and atheistic organs and considers such acts against Islamic sharia (law), the constitution, and political stability," the council said in its statement. "If not prevented, God forbid, catastrophe will emerge, which will not only destabilize the country, but the region and the world." Ahmad Ali Jebrayeli, a member of the council and also a member of parliament, said that reliable sources had told him of Christian missionaries using offices in Kabul and in the provinces as bases from which to convert the local population. He also alleged that the missionaries are being supported by NGOs. "Some NGOs are encouraging them to convert, give them books (Bibles) and promise to send them abroad," he told Reuters on Saturday. Missionary work in Afghanistan came under fire in 2007 when a group of 23 South Korean missionaries were kidnapped and held hostage by the Taliban, who accused them of converting Muslim Afghans to Christianity. They were later released, but not before two from the group were murdered. Some Muslims who hold onto a strict interpretation of the Koran believe that conversion to another faith from Islam is apostasy and therefore punishable by death. In 2006, Pope Benedict appealed for clemency and a number of Western leaders protested over the case made by an Afghan court against Abdul Rahman over his conversion to Christianity. The case was later dropped amid international clamor and widespread protests after the court ruled that Rahman was mentally ill. Rahman was to be put to death for his conversion to Christianity. ............................ Malaysia Embroiled in Another Christian/Islam Conversion Court Battle Malaysia is engaged in yet another conversion court battle, with the country’s high court deciding whether the Christian widower of a Malaysian woman has the legal right to stop Islamic authorities from burying her in accordance with Muslim rites. The judges in the court have to decide whether Wong Sau Lan, 53, converted to Islam before she died. The conversion claim made by the Islamic Council is being contested by her husband, Ngiam Tee Kong, who had received a notice from the council that she converted to Islam on Christmas Eve. The case is the latest in the string of cases brought before the court that tests the strength of the Malaysian Constitution in defending religious freedom for minority groups. Last year, Lina Joy, one of Malaysia’s best known Christians, lost a six-year battle with the government over its refusal to remove Islam from her national identity card even though she converted to Christianity. In his judgment against Joy, Federal Court Chief Justice Ahmad Fairuz Sheikh Abdul Halim had stated that individuals “cannot simply convert from one religion to another (at the whim and fancy of the individual)” even though religious freedom is protected by the constitution. The National Evangelical Christian Fellowship of Malaysia had condemned the court decision and claimed that it was retreating in the face of ”relentless onslaught” on their position. Archived from NEWS+VIEWS page January 10, 2008 -------------- DIFFERING READINGS OF THE BIBLE IN CHINA A Chinese Christian businessman has been released from detention after police grabbed him from his home in the early morning hours over a month ago, says his wife. Zhang Jing said her husband, 37-year-old Shi Weihan, was set free on January 4 after being held in a cell for 37 days, the legal limit in China before formal charges have to be filed. He was arrested on November 28, while his two young daughters cowered in their bedroom, for ‘illegally’ publishing Bibles and Christian literature for distribution in home churches. His family had been worried he would be sentenced to at least five years. Under his Holy Spirit Trading Company, Shi ran a Christian bookstore, a printing press and a condom distribution business. While all the books in his store were legally published and sold in China, Shi printed bibles and religious literature without authorization for distribution around local homes churches including one he ran with his wife and family, said Zhang, also 37. ‘He was worried about publishing these unauthorized books,’ she added. But the church needed these books and so he felt it was a risk worth taking. According to China Aid Organization (CAA), a US-based pressure group that catalogues religious persecution in the mainland, police released Shi because of ‘insufficient evidence’. What saved Shi, though, said the CAA, was international scrutiny. ‘It is evident that international attention and pressure on the case were instrumental in influencing the court's decision,’ it said… Shi's case illustrates the delicate situation the government finds itself in, just seven months before the Beijing Summer Olympics. On the one hand it is paranoid about protests during the Games - human rights groups have accused it of stepping up crackdowns on non-state sanctioned religions groups in the runup to the sports event. The US State Department's 2007 report on religious freedoms in China said the government appears to be particularly worried about religious groups plotting to disrupt the Games. Zhou Heng, a church leader from the western region of Xinjiang, whose case is similar to Shi's, is still behind bars after he was detained last August for possessing ‘illegally-printed’ bibles, said the CAA. But, ironically, with the event throwing the country under unprecedented scrutiny, it is also at great pains to present itself to the international community as a country of religious tolerance. This month it announced local Christian groups will be encouraged to hand out Bibles to athletes and spectators during the event. Shi's bookstore, in an upmarket office tower, is just three kilometers or so from the main Olympics venue. A few weeks after police snatched him from his home, China boasted it would soon be one of the world's single-biggest Bible publishers. The country's top religious affairs officer Ye Xiaowen presided over a ceremony to mark the publication of Amity Printing Co's 50 millionth Bible - 41 million have been distributed inside the People's Republic… Despite official assurances of freedom of religion, China permits only five official beliefs - Buddhism, Daoism, Islam, Catholicism and Protestantism. Practitioners may only formally worship in state-sanctioned churches, temples or mosques. The legality of house churches varies from place to place. Officially small prayer meetings among family and friends are legal, but many people allege that police regularly harass home churches, either closing them down or forcing them to register with local Religious Affairs Bureaus The Last Days Signs - The End Times - Are Upon The Earth!

Australia is planning tough new rules to protect children from online pornography and violence. The new Labor government wants internet service providers to filter content to ensure households and schools do not receive "inappropriate" material. Civil libertarians have condemned the plan as unnecessary, and say it will erode the freedom of the internet. But telecommunications minister Stephen Conroy said more needed to be done to protect children. The Australian government's aim is to ensure that children only have access to family-friendly websites. Service providers will be expected to stop the flow of pornography and other X-rated or violent content. The government is set to compile a list of unsuitable sites, although at this stage it is unclear what will be deemed unsuitable. Australians wanting unfettered access to the web will have to contact their supplier to opt out of the new regime. Critics of the proposals have insisted they have no place in a liberal democracy, and have accused Canberra of being oppressive. But Mr Conroy has been unmoved by their arguments. The minister stressed that if people equated freedom of speech with watching child pornography then he would always disagree with them. Concerns have also been raised that the government's filters could slow down access to the net, in a country where connection speeds are often below international standards. A lesson a day throughout the year will completely cover the 365 lessons from the Course in Miracles “Workbook.” For example, Lesson #29 asks you to go through your day affirming that “God is in everything I see.” Lesson #61 tells each person to repeat the affirmation “I am the light of the world.” Lesson #70 teaches the student to say and believe “My salvation comes from me.” By the end of the year, “Oprah & Friends” listeners will have completed all of the lessons laid out in the Course in Miracles Workbook. Those who finish the Course will have a wholly redefined spiritual mindset—a New Age worldview that includes the belief that there is no sin, no evil, no devil, and that God is “in” everyone and everything. ***A Course in Miracles teaches its students to rethink everything they believe about God and life. The Course Workbook bluntly states: “This is a course in mind training” and is dedicated to “thought reversal.” Teaching A Course in Miracles will be Oprah’s longtime friend and special XM Satellite Radio reporter Marianne Williamson—who also happens to be one of today’s premier New Age leaders. She and Conversations with God author Neale Donald Walsch co-founded the American Renaissance Alliance in 1997, that later became the Global Renaissance Alliance of New Age leaders, that changed its name again in 2005 to the Peace Alliance. This Peace Alliance seeks to usher in an era of global peace founded on the principles of a New Age/New Spirituality that they are now referring to as a “civil rights movement for the soul.” They all agree that the principles of this New Age/New Spirituality are clearly articulated in A Course in Miracles—which is fast becoming the New Age Bible. So what is A Course in Miracles and what does it teach? A Course in Miracles is allegedly “new revelation” from “Jesus” to help humanity work through these troubled times. This “Jesus”—who bears no doctrinal resemblance to the Bible’s Jesus Christ—began delivering his channeled teachings in 1965 to a Columbia University Professor of Medical Psychology by the name of Helen Schucman. One day Schucman heard an “inner voice” stating, “This is a course in miracles. Please take notes.” For seven years she diligently took spiritual dictation from this inner voice that described himself as “Jesus.” A Course in Miracles was quietly published in 1975 by the Foundation for Inner Peace. For many years “the Course” was an underground cult classic for New Age seekers who studied “the Course” individually, with friends, or in small study groups. Here are some quotes from the “Jesus” of A Course in Miracles: * “There is no sin. . . " * A “slain Christ has no meaning.” * “The journey to the cross should be the last ‘useless journey.” * “Do not make the pathetic error of ‘clinging to the old rugged cross.’” * “The Name of Jesus Christ as such is but a symbol... It is a symbol that is safely used as a replacement for the many names of all the gods to which you pray.” * “God is in everything I see.” * “The recognition of God is the recognition of yourself.” * “The oneness of the Creator and the creation is your wholeness, your sanity and your limitless power.” * “The Atonement is the final lesson he [man] need learn, for it teaches him that, never having sinned, he has no need of salvation.” ***Most Christians recognize that these teachings are the opposite of what the Bible teaches. At this critical time in the history of the world, the New Gospel/New Spirituality is coming right at the world and the church with its New Age teachings and its New Age Peace Plan. But this New Age Peace Plan has at its deceptive core the bottom-line teaching from A Course in Miracles that “we are all one” because God is “in” everyone and everything. But the Bible is clear that we are not God (Ezekiel 28:2; Hosea 11:9). And per Galatians 3:26-28, our only oneness is in Jesus Christ—not in ourselves as “God” and “Christ.” What Oprah and Marianne Williamson and the world will learn one day is that humanity’s only real and lasting peace is with the true Jesus Christ who is described and quoted in the Holy Bible (Romans 5:1). Oprah Winfrey’s misplaced faith in Marianne Williamson and the New Age teachings of A Course in Miracles is a sure sign of the times. But an even surer sign of the times is that most Christians are not taking heed to what is happening in the world and in the church. We are not contending for the faith as the Bible admonishes us to do (Jude 3). It is time for all of our Purpose-Driven and Emerging church pastors to address the real issue of the day. Our true Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is being reinvented, redefined, and blasphemed right in front of our eyes and hardly anyone seems to notice or care. If we want the world to know who Jesus Christ is, we need to also warn them about who He is not. There is a false New Age “Christ” making huge inroads into the world and into the church. The Apostle Paul said that “it is a shame” we have to even talk about these things, but talk about them we must (Ephesians 5:12-16). If people want to follow Oprah Winfrey and the New Age “Christ” of A Course in Miracles they certainly have that right. But let them be warned that the New Age “Christ” they are following is not the same Jesus Christ who is so clearly and authoritatively presented in the pages of the Bible. The organization has released a list of the most recent assaults on Christians, including the detention in Henan province of Pastor Liang Qi Zhen, vice president of the Chinese House Church Alliance. ‘After disbursing Liang's congregation, police officials took him by force and transported him to an undisclosed location where he was tortured for several hours. Liang's ears and right hand were injured during the lengthy assault,’ said the organization, which seeks to be a window into China so the world can ‘witness the oppression, imprisonment and torture of Christians…’ The organization also said of the 270 protestant pastors arrested in Shandong province recently for participating in the Bible study, only 200 have been released and 70 remain in custody. In Jiangsu province, a house church was attacked by police officials during members' Christmas celebration, and four women were ‘detained,’ including one who was hospitalized, the group said. In Yunan province, members of the Bureau of Ethnic and Religious Affairs raided a house church meeting and arrested several people, including the woman who rented the property. They burned hundreds of Christian books and ordered the landlord to stop renting to the woman, CAA said. House church members are labeled by authorities as ‘cultists’ because they do not belong to the state-sanctioned official church organizations, and frequently face a year in labor camps when arrested, the group said .............................. Growing 'Atheistic fundamentalism' fears Dr Morgan said fundamentalism Atheism left 'no room for debate' The Archbishop of Wales, Dr Barry Morgan, has described a rise in Atheistic "fundamentalism" as one of the great problems facing the world. He focused on what he described as "atheistic fundamentalism". He said it led to situations such as councils calling Christmas "Winterval", schools refusing to put on nativity plays and crosses removed from chapels. In his Christmas message, he said: "Any kind of fundamentalism, be it atheistic or Islamic, is dangerous." The archbishop said "atheistic fundamentalism" was a new phenomenon. APOSTATE or maybe ANTI-CHRISTIAN?????? BOOK RECOMMENDED BY RICK WARREN CALLS PURPOSE DRIVEN OPPONENTS "LEADERS FROM HELL" Transitioning: Leading Your Church Through Change, a book by Dan Southerland and highly recommended by Rick Warren, calls those who oppose the Purpose Driven philosophy "leaders from hell." Southerland is "the leading expert on implementing the Purpose Driven paradigm in existing churches" (Church Transitions web site), and Warren sells Southerland's book at his web site. Southerland says they have experienced two major sources of criticism as they have transitioned churches to the Purpose Driven model: Christians from traditional backgrounds and traditional pastors. He hastens to add that not all of the traditionals oppose them, "just the meaner ones" (p. 116). On page 115 he likens Purpose Driven opponents to Sanballat who resisted the building of the walls of Jerusalem in the time of Nehemiah. Southerland says, "Sanballat is a leader from hell. We all have some Sanballats in our churches. This is the guy who opposes whatever you propose. ... You cannot call this guy a leader from hell to his face--but you could call him Sanballat" (p. 115). In reality, Sanballat was an unsaved opponent of God's Word, God's work, and God's people. To liken Bible-believing Christians who love the Lord Jesus Christ and who are trying to stand for His Word in this apostate age to Sanballat is a vicious slander, and Rick Warren is guilty of recommending this slander. Isn't it interesting that about the only time that the Warren crowd talks about hell is when they mis-apply it to fundamentalists and evangelicals of a stricter stripe! It is a sad fact that Southerland has trained 100,000 people in the transitioning principles in the last seven years, but it is a sign of the times. "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables" (2 Timothy 4:3-4). Archived from NEWS+VIEWS page December 11, 2007 -------------KILLING GOD.... Does 'Golden Compass' point kids toward atheism? "The Golden Compass" is New Line Cinema's huge gamble: a sprawling film fantasy that boasts a high-profile cast, a tale of mystery and magic, astonishing special effects and a $180 million budget. The film is also a source of great controversy, as it is based on the first in a trilogy of novels ("His Dark Materials") written by militant atheist Philip Pullman. The Catholic League's Bill Donahue has been one of the voices at the forefront of the opposition campaign. Saying the books "denigrate Christianity, thrash the Catholic Church and sell the virtues of atheism," Mr. Donahue has called on Catholics to boycott the movie. Ted Baehr, who heads the Christian Film and Television Commission, recently told Fox News in discussing the film: "Children who buy into this are going to be trapped in a sad, desperate world." The cause for concern comes directly from Mr. Pullman's own words. The iconoclastic Pullman told the Sydney Morning News in 2003, "My books are about killing God."
