The new winner of the incredibly worldly American Idol television show is Kris Allen, a “devout Christian” who is worship leader at New Life Church in Conway, Arkansas, and has done missionary work in various places.

While pursuing the title of American Idol, Allen performed songs written by such filthy rockers as the homosexual Freddie Mercury (“We Are the Champions”),

accused child molester and unisex monster Michael Jackson (“Man in the Mirror”), drug, prostitute, pornography addict Marvin Gaye (“What’s Going On?”),

and rapper Kayne West (“Heartless”), who has appeared in a blasphemous pose on the cover of filthy Rolling Stone magazine depicting Jesus wearing a crown of thorns.

According to Business Insider, it was Allen’s “teenage-girl fanbase” that kept him in the running (“Idol Finalist Kris Allen,” May 13, 2009).

Allen told his pastor that “feeling the warm stage lights and seeing the eager audience looking up at him reminded him of only one thing: going to church.”

But BUT BUT that is only because contemporary churches mimic the world... the same type of music, the same rock band format,

the same worldly rock show, the same dress, the same addiction to the heavy back beat, the same “judge not” philosophy.

Disgraced Dallas televangelist Robert Tilton has third wife

Notorious televangelist Robert Tilton has been quietly rebuilding his life in Miami, Florida. An indication of just how far below the radar he flies nowadays came in February when a masked gunman invaded Tilton's beachfront mansion, and the Miami news media didn't even bother to report the incident. After the home invasion, the Tiltons moved out of their 8,000-square-foot Miami Beach mansion and into a South Beach high-rise with 24-hour security. They put the house on the market for $6.9 million. Tilton and his third wife, Maria, were not physically harmed and nothing was stolen. These days, Tilton plies his trade on a Web site, promises blessings that far outstrip the amount of the check they send to pastors such as Tilton.

Easter 'crucifixions' - Catholics in the Philippines nailed to crosses for Good Friday

Catholic devotees in the Philippines have been nailed to crosses in Easter 'crucifixions' recreating the Passion of Christ for Good Friday.

Other penitents whipped their backs and chanted prayers as dozens of them mixed faith with gory rituals to mark the church calendar's most somber day at Easter.

In the small village of Cutud, 50 miles north of Manila, the crucifixion of Jesus Christ was re-enacted in a colorful street play with dozens of men carrying wooden crosses as heavy as 110 lbs and scores whipping their backs to a bloody pulp.

After walking barefoot for almost a mile around the village in scorching heat, the drama ended at a man-made hill where 11 men were nailed to crosses with three-inch nails driven into their hands and feet.

Drunk Priest runs over Good Friday churchgoers, one dead

A woman lost her leg and at least five other people were injured when a priest, drunk from drinking Communion wine drove into a group of churchgoers after a Good Friday service near Pittsburgh, killing an 89-year-old woman and wounding four other people.

Madeline Romell's leg had to be amputated shortly after the Friday afternoon crash in the parking lot of St. Maurice Catholic Church in Forest Hills. She was pronounced dead about five hours later.

Four others were hurt, but Forest Hills Mayor Ray Heller Jr. says their injuries weren't life-threatening. He says the injuries included a broken leg and a broken arm.

Archbishop says pending report to show Irish priests abused 'thousands' of children

At a Thursday mass in Dublin's Pro-Cathedral, an Irish Archbishop shocked his congregation, which included numerous priests, by exclaiming that a forthcoming investigative report will reveal that over three decades, Irish Catholic priests have abused "thousands" of children. "[The report] will make us and the entire church a humbler church," he said.

The following is excerpted from “Catholic Church Stung by Autobiography,” The Independent, London, Feb. 20, 2009:

“A former nun's tell-all story which details illicit relationships, sexual harassment and bullying in the convent where she spent three decades is causing ructions in the Catholic Church in the south Indian state of Kerala.

In ‘Amen--an Autobiography of a Nun,’ Sister Jesme says when she became a nun she discovered priests were forcing novices to have sex with them.

There were also secret homosexual relationships among the nuns and at one point she was forced into such a relationship by another nun who told her she preferred this kind of arrangement as it ruled out the possibility of pregnancy.

‘I want to express my feelings and to explain what happened to me... I want people to know how I have suffered,’ she told, speaking from the town of Kozhikode.

... Sister Jesme, who quit last year as the principal of a Catholic college in Thrissur, alleges senior nuns tried to have her committed to a mental institution after she spoke out against them.

... a spokesman for the Syro-Malabar order of the Catholic Church, Dr Paul Thelakkat, dismissed Sister Jesme’s allegations as a ‘book of trivialities.’

‘It’s her experiences, but these are things that might creep into a society of communal living,’ he said.

Asked if the church would be shocked by the allegations, he replied: ‘Absolutely not. The church knows about these things.’”

Sacrificed Human body parts found in Catholic/Voodoo religious temple

The leader of a religious group has been arrested by police after human body parts were found in the cult's Voodoo temple.

A human skull, femur, and other bones were found on the altar, and detectives were investigating whether human sacrifices were carried out at the Voodoo church in Argentina.

Police arrested the 44-year-old priest after allegations that he forced female followers into prostitution to raise money for the Umbanda Voodoo/Catholic cult, a spiritualist religious group which has followers throughout South America.

The Umbanda religion is a blend of spiritualism, African Voodoo religions and Catholicism which sprung up in the early 20th century among the impoverished black inhabitants of Rio de Janeiro.

Catholic bishops were warned in 1950s about hedonist child molesting priests

Documents by Rev. Gerald Fitzgerald may prove that the Catholic Church knew about the problem of child molestation as far back as the early 1950s.

The founder of a religious order that treats Roman Catholic priests who molest children concluded in the 1950s that offenders were unlikely to change and should not be returned to ministry, according to his letters, which were obtained by plaintiffs' lawyers.

Mexican Catholic sex abuse probe could uncover more victims

Pope Benedict's probe into an influential Roman Catholic priestly order could uncover more cases of sexual abuse similar to those committed by its founder, a victims' group in Mexico said.

Pope Benedict ordered the investigation into the Legion of Christ last month following a string of scandals tied to its founder, Father Marcial Maciel, a Mexican, who died last year at the age of 87.

THE EMERGING CHURCH, PAGANISM, CATHOLICISM, AND THE NEW AGE

Richard Rohr and the Center for Action and Contemplation in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is hosting an emerging church conference for three days beginning March 20. Speakers include Brian McLaren, Phyllis Tickle, and Shane Claiborne.

It is billed as “the first large gathering of Roman Catholic, Mainline Protestant, Evangelical, and other Christians seeking to explore this emergence and convergence together.

Rohr is a Franciscan priest who is heavily involved in contemplative mysticism and liberal “social-justice” works.

He holds to a universalistic, panentheistic doctrine and believes that much in the Bible, such as the Garden of Eden, is mythical.

Like Thomas Merton, Rohr integrates pagan contemplative practices with that of ancient Catholic “saints.” He has adapted such things as Buddhist koans and Hindu mantras.

In January 2008 Rohr and his organization sponsored a conference called “Jesus and Buddha: Paths to Awakening.” The announcement said, “The teachings of both Jesus and Buddha call us to transformational honesty.

They are both teaching us how to see, and how to see all the way through! They both knew that if you see God for yourself, you will see the Divine in all things.” Rohr says that his philosophy teaches “us to be both-and” and “keeps us from either-or.”

It “keeps us from the false choice of liberal or conservative” and “allows us to enjoy both sides of things”; it “is far beyond my religion versus your religion” and “allows us to be both

distinct and yet united.”

In fact, this is the essence of Hinduism, the New Age, and the Emerging Church. Biblical Christianity, on the other hand, teaches us that there is truth and error, right and wrong, good

and bad, God and the Devil, light and dark, that there is only one way of salvation and many false ways, and that men are either saved or lost.

The end-time New Age Tower of Babel is being built before our very eyes.

UNCONDITIONAL LOVE?

The emerging church claims that God’s love is unconditional, but this is a serious error. God’s love is unfathomable, but it is not unconditional.

Consider the following statements that the Lord Jesus Christ made: “

He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him” (John 14:21).

“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned” (John 15:5-6).

“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity” (Matthew 7:21-23).

“He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him” (John 3:36). “I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3).

The “God” that he encounters, though, is not the God of the Bible.

Young depicts the triune God as a young Asian woman named “Sarayu” (supposedly the Holy Spirit), an oriental carpenter who loves to have a good time (supposedly Jesus), and an older black woman named “Elousia” (supposedly God the Father).

God the Father is also depicted as a guy with a ponytail and a goatee. Young’s god is the god of the emerging church.

He is cool, loves rock & roll, is non-judgmental, does not exercise wrath toward sin, does not

send unbelievers to an eternal fiery hell,

does not require the new birth, puts no obligations on people, doesn’t like traditional Bible

churches, and does not accept the Bible as the infallible Word of God.

US court allows man to sue Vatican over sexual abuse by priest

A US federal appeals court has opened the way for a man to sue the Vatican after he was allegedly sexually abused 40 years ago as a teenager by a Roman Catholic priest.

In one what lawyers said was a landmark ruling, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in Portland, Oregon, decided that victims of sexual abuse by priest can take legal action against the Vatican

- which has been accused of covering up for offenders - even though it is considered a sovereign nation.

Texas diocese to pay $775K in priest sex abuse lawsuit*

The Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth on Wednesday reached a $775,000 settlement involving sexual abuse claims against three priests who have since died.

The five people involved in the claims said they were sexually abused by the Rev. James Reilly, who served at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Arlington from 1969 through 1987, when he retired. Reilly died in 1999.

Diocese spokesman Pat Svacina said he could not reveal any specifics, such as the victims' genders or dates of the alleged abuse.

One of the cases also involved two other priests, the Rev. James Hanlon and the Rev. Gerard Scholl, both of whom served or taught in Texas and New Mexico from the 1970s to the 1990s. Hanlon died in 1990 and Scholl died in 2002, according to records.

The Rev. Kevin Vann, bishop of the Fort Worth diocese, said he was deeply sorry for any sexual abuse the victims may have suffered by the three priests, and that he prays for their healing and reconciliation.

Indian nun claims sex abuse is rife within Catholic Church

An Indian nun has stunned the Catholic Church with a confessional autobiography claiming widespread sexual abuse and bullying within its cloisters

Bookshops throughout India's Christian communities in Kerala have already sold out of Amen, the autobiography of Sister Jesme, who has alleged that priests and nuns not only broke their vows of celibacy with each other but regularly forced novices to have sex with them.

The Catholic Church in India is mired in a series of sexual controversies, and has only just begun to recover from the dismissal of a senior bishop who "adopted" an attractive 26-year-old female companion as his "daughter".

The book by the former nun reveals how as a young novice she was propositioned in the confession box by a priest who cited biblical references to "divine kisses". Later she was cornered by a lesbian nun at a college where they were teaching. "She would come to my bed in the night and do lewd acts and I could not stop her," she claims.

When she was sent to Bangalore to stay with a priest known for his piety, he lectured her about the need for "physical love" and later assaulted her.

"Back in his room, he tried to fondle me and when I resisted, got up and asked angrily if I had seen a man. When I said no, he stripped himself, ejaculated and forced me to strip," she writes.

Pastor Charged With Indecent Exposure in Virginia

A Tri- Cities area pastor faces charges of indecent exposure. Police say the 58 year old man was pleasuring himself in the boys and men's underwear aisle. Police responded to the manager's 911 call and reviewed the surveillance video.

The church suspended him from Trinity United Methodist Church in Big Stone Gap and released a statement that included this quote, "This is a painful and difficult matter. It is our prayer that all concerned will withhold judgment and allow due process to take place."

A Weleetka, Oklahoma pastor of the Arbeka Indian Baptist Church has been accused of molesting several children in his congregation. Many of his accusers are members of the church who claim that he fondled them in the fellowship hall. He has been charged with 16 counts of sexually assaulting girls.

Massachusetts pastor charged with rape

A Milford pastor is under house arrest after she was charged with molesting and raping a 16-year-old congregant over a two-year period, beginning when the girl was 14, prosecutors said.

Ana Almeida, 31, who leads a mostly Brazilian congregation at Plenitude of God Church, pleaded not guilty when she was arraigned for the rape and four counts of indecent assault and battery of a child older than 14.

Willow Creek's Chicago pastor quits over 'sexual impurity'

The Rev. Steve Wu who headed the Chicago, Illinois megachurch congregation of the evangelical Willow Creek Community Church has resigned after "he admitted to sexual impurity," church officials said in a statement.

Details about what happened and what's next for Wu were unclear, but the statement said Wu "has expressed a desire to participate in a restoration process."

Polish police hold Catholic Priest, in child porn raids

Polish police say they have detained 78 people _ including a priest and a doctor _ suspected of possessing child pornography and spreading it on the Internet.

Poland's national police say they confiscated 116 computers, 5,400 CDs and DVDs, 19 USB drives, more than 100 videocassettes and other materials in early morning raids in 91 homes and offices across Poland.

The police said Wednesday that 10 people have been charged so far for possessing and distributing child pornography on the Web. Authorities are still questioning the remaining people in custody.

If convicted of spreading child pornography, the suspects face up to 8 years in prison.

Priest knowingly supplying drugs hidden inside a CD case to prisoners

A 65-year-old Roman Catholic priest has gone on trial, accused of smuggling cocaine and hashish into Barcelona's Modelo jail so that prisoners could snort and smoke their way out of the tedium of a life behind bars.

If found guilty, Father Andreu Oliveras, a former prison chaplain, faces the prospect of ending up behind bars himself ‑ for up to 10 years.

Oliveras was caught inside the Modelo jail two years ago after bringing in a bulky CD case stuffed with eight grams of cocaine and 51 grams of hashish, a court in Barcelona was told.

A former Roman Catholic priest convicted of taking a boy on religious retreats to have sex with him was sentenced Wednesday to 25 years in prison.

Donald McGuire, of Oak Lawn, displayed no emotion as U.S. District Judge Rebecca Pallmeyer imposed a 300-month sentence that likely means the 78-year-old former priest will die in prison.

Pallmeyer said McGuire used his stature, his international reputation that included being a spiritual adviser to Mother Teresa and the trust parents had in him that he would care for "the finest gifts God ever gave them: their children."

Mormon Polygamists arrested in Canada

Two leaders of a Canadian Mormon polygamist sect were arrested and charged with polygamy in what could be a landmark case, said Wally Oppal, attorney general of British Columbia.

Winston Blackmore, 52, and James Oler, 44, were taken into custody in Bountiful, a western town of about 1,000 residents, Oppal said.

Blackmore has married 19 women and Oler married five, the official said.

The men are members of the polygamist sect known as the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints or FLDS church, he added.

The leader of Roman Catholics in the northeastern state of Maine has taken the unusual step of threatening to punish an outspoken advocate for people who were sexually abused by priests, possibly by denying him communion.

Paul Kendrick of Freeport has been banned from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland, and warned in a letter that if he tries again to contact Portland Bishop Richard Malone he risks losing any right "to participate fully in the sacramental life of the church."

Kendrick, a co-founder of the Maine chapter of the lay reform group Voice of the Faithful, has been a vocal critic of how church leaders have responded to abuse claims and treated victims.

Chicago Archdiocese to pay $1.4M in sex-abuse case

The Archdiocese of Chicago said Thursday it has agreed to pay nearly $1.4 million to a man who claims he was sexually abused as a boy by a Catholic priest.

The Rev. Chester Przybylo allegedly abused the then-teenaged Polish immigrant at Five Holy Martyrs parish from 1987 through 1992, said attorney Jeff Anderson, whose St. Paul, Minn.-based firm represents the alleged victim.

Documents show the archdiocese was aware of allegations against Przybylo, who was never criminally charged, Anderson said.

Ariz. priest excommunicated for creating Sex

A priest accused of having sexual connections with teenage boys has been excommunicated by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix for starting his own ministry.

The diocese announced Monday that Monsignor Dale Fushek and another Catholic priest who helped open the ministry are now prohibited from receiving church sacraments.

Fushek was the second highest-ranking administrator in the diocese. He is awaiting trial on charges including sexual assault and indecent exposure over sexual connections from the 1980s and '90s.

Vatican to be sued over sex abuse claims

Three men who claim they were abused by Catholic clergy in America have succeeded in naming the Vatican as sole defendant in a lawsuit and are hoping to force Pope Benedict XVI to give evidence in the case.

The 6th US circuit court of appeal recently ruled that although the Holy See, as a sovereign state, was immune from most lawsuits, the plaintiffs could proceed with their argument that its officials were involved in a deliberate effort to cover up evidence of sexual abuse by American priests.

Their case centers on a 1962 directive from the Vatican telling church officials to hide sex abuse complaints against clergy.

One week after telling National Public Radio his view of same-sex unions is shifting, Richard Cizik has resigned as vice president for governmental affairs for the National Association of Evangelicals.

Cizik – the chief lobbyist in Washington for the umbrella group representing 45,000 U.S. churches from 59 denominations – lost the trust of his constituents, said NAE President Leith Anderson, according to Christianity Today magazine.

"Although he has subsequently expressed regret, apologized, and affirmed our values, there is a loss of trust in his credibility as a spokesperson among leaders and constituencies," Anderson said in a letter to NAE board members.

US court rules Vatican can be sued for sex abuse by American priests

The Vatican had tried to block a class action lawsuit alleging that it orchestrated a cover-up of sexual abuse by clergy with the argument that it was protected by laws granting sovereign states immunity from most US civil proceedings.

Central to the case is a 1962 Vatican mandate, unearthed in 2003, which outlined a policy of "strictest" secrecy regarding allegations of sexual abuse by clergy and threatened those who spoke out with excommunication.

A US federal appeals court ruled that the case brought by three Kentucky men can proceed because exceptions in the law allow the Vatican to be held liable for the actions of church employees acting within the scope of their employment in the United States.

India arrests 2 priests, nun in 1992 killing

Federal police arrested two Roman Catholic priests and a nun Wednesday in the 16-year-old killing of a nun whose body was found in a well in southern India.

Police have arrested the Revs. Thomas Kottor and Jose Poothrikkayil and a nun known as Sister Sephy, said Harsh Bhal, a spokesman for India's Central Bureau of Investigation.

The three have been arrested in the death of Sister Abhaya, whose body was found in a well in the southern Indian state of Kerala in 1992. Her full name was unavailable.

The new English Standard Version Study Bible is selling briskly.

More than 111,000 copies have been purchased since its release in mid-October. The manager of Westminster Bookstore’s online sales said the ESV Study Bible is “by far the fastest selling new product in the history of our store.

The ESV, which was published in 2001, is based on the 1971 edition of the Revised Standard

Version, which was translated by theological modernists and is owned by the National Council of Churches.

It therefore follows the critical Greek New Testament that removes nearly 3,000 words (230 entire or partial verses) from the text that underlies the Reformation Bibles such as the English King James and the German Luther and introduces significant doctrinal changes such as omitting “which is in heaven” from John 3:13” and “God” from 1 Timothy 3:16 and Jude 4.

The critical text is based on Greek manuscripts that were produced in Egypt during the early centuries after the apostles and that were discarded by the churches for 1500 years of church history until their recovery by modern textual critics in the nineteenth century.

The ESV was produced by 95 “evangelical” scholars representing 20 denominations, with J.I. Packer

as the theological editor. Many New Evangelicals have promoted the ESV, including John Piper, whose books are popular among “younger fundamentalists.”

Church of England bans swinging, drinking Hedonist Vicar from practicing

A female vicar who told colleagues that she went on swinging hedonist holidays in the South of France and who turned up drunk to church services has been banned from practicing for 12 years by the Church of England.

The Rev Teresa Davies, from Daventry, Northamptonshire, was found guilty of inappropriate conduct at a tribunal in London yesterday.

Mrs. Davies was said to have told two church colleagues at a Christmas lunch in 2006 that she and her husband had spent holidays without their children in the South of France, in an area that she said was noted for “the casual exchange of sexual partners”.

The tribunal also heard that Mrs. Davies, 37, and her husband had posted under the name “Tess and Mick, Daventry” on swinging websites.

Australian Catholic priest jailed for child sex crimes

An Australian Catholic priest and school chaplain has been jailed for four years for child sex crimes.

Edmund John Haines was sentenced in Geelong County Court today to four years and three months, with a non-parole period of two years and six months, the Geelong Advertiser reported.

Haines was earlier convicted of a number of counts of indecent acts with a child under 16, procuring a minor for the purposes of child pornography, making and producing child pornography and possessing child pornography.

The offences, involving two boys, were committed at Bannockburn, Winchelsea and Geelong between March 2006 and February 208.

Swiss court alleges priest sexually abused 25 boys

Swiss officials said Monday they have evidence that a Roman Catholic priest sexually abused two dozen boys in France and Switzerland over a 35-year period.

The priest has admitted committing some sex acts with children between the ages of 9 and 14, two of whom had disabilities, said investigating magistrate Yvonne Gendre.

However, the 68-year-old priest, who was not named because of privacy laws, has denied accusations that he molested two children who subsequently committed suicide, Gendre told reporters in the western city of Fribourg.

The priest also denied accusations by some of the victims that he sodomized them, she added.

A CATHOLIC priest and another man from the Newcastle area have been charged with a total of 35 child sex offenses dating back to the 1970s.

Police said a 63-year-old priest was charged with 22 sexual assault offenses relating to alleged attacks on two brothers both aged 12 at the time.

The attacks allegedly took place at Charlestown, Belmont and Newcastle.

Detectives charged another man, aged 56, with 13 sexual offenses relating to one of the brothers and two other boys, aged 13 and 14 at the time.

Australian Catholic Priest jailed for school sex attacks

A 57-year-old Catholic priest has been sentenced to 15 years' prison for 18 sex offences involving seven boys.

Judge Robert Hulme sentenced Paul Raymond Evans in the NSW District Court today for molesting students while at Boys' Town, Engadine, in Sydney's south from 1977 to 1988.

He was given a 15-year sentence with a non-parole period of nine and a half years.

A jury in July found Evans guilty of nine counts of homosexual intercourse by a teacher, seven counts of indecent assault and two acts of indecency.

Evans, a member of the Catholic order the Salesians of Don Bosco, had been a dormitory master at Boys' Town.

Rhode Island Catholic diocese pays $1.3M to settle 4 sex abuse claims

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence will pay $1.3 million to four men who said they were abused by priests, lawyers announced.

The settlements were reached in June and will go to the victims or their estates, said attorney James Murphy, who represented the church.

"There is no amount of money that is going to make it right," Carl DeLuca, one of the plaintiffs' lawyers, told The Providence Journal. "It is more an issue of validation. And in that sense they feel validated."

Three men sued the diocese starting in 2003 alleging that priests abused them as children. Murphy said a fourth man contacted church authorities to report that he had been abused; he never filed a lawsuit and died before the settlement was reached.

"These are very intense cases and troubling cases," Murphy said.

Bishop Thomas Tobin and the Providence diocese did not admit any wrongdoing as part of the agreement.

In 2002, the diocese reached a $14.25 million settlement with 37 alleged victims of sexual abuse in Rhode Island who filed lawsuits. The cases involved allegations against 11 priests and a nun.

A Roman Catholic diocese has tentatively agreed to pay $10 million to settle nearly 50 sexual abuse claims against the diocese and 12 of its priests.

Kansas City-St. Joseph Diocese Bishop Robert W. Finn on Wednesday apologized for the abuse that occurred at the hands of current and former clergy members, and promised that steps are being taken to make sure such abuse never happens again.

"A priest is ordained with the privilege of celebrating the church's sacraments by nothing less than a holy order," Finn said at a news conference.

"The behaviors attributable to certain priests involved in this matter not only betray those holy orders, but diminish the stature of the faithful and responsible priests who dispatch their ministry effectively and faithfully day in, day out."

The deal would settle all current sexual abuse lawsuits pending in Jackson County against the diocese and 12 current or former priests for incidents alleged to have occurred between 1951 and 1992.

Second Australian Catholic priest charged in child sex investigation

The priest was arrested this morning following a lengthy investigation into alleged child molestation in the Newcastle area of New South Wales dating back to the 1970s and 1980s.

He was charged with perverting the course of justice in relation to other priests involved in the investigation.

The arrest comes a day after a priest from the Newcastle-Maitland Diocese, John Sidney Denham, 65, was charged with 30 child sex offences.

HIV positive priest accused of sex abuse dead

A Catholic priest who was HIV positive and accused of sexually abusing minors in Texas and Rhode Island has died.

The Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth announced Wednesday that Philip Anthony Magaldi died Tuesday in a North Texas health care facility.

Earlier this year, the 72-year-old Magaldi told officials in the diocese he was HIV positive.

Magaldi was removed from active ministries in 1999 following allegations of sexual misconduct in Texas and Rhode Island. The church considered those allegations credible, and Magaldi was removed from clerical status in 2006.

In a statement, officials in the Fort Worth diocese said they will "pray for the repose of his soul."

Magaldi will be cremated and buried with his parents in Florida.

Pedophile Aussie priest to be deported

The Catholic order of a former priest jailed today for sexually abusing boys at a New Zealand school says it will supervise him for the rest of his life after he is deported back to Australia.

Rodger William Moloney, now 73 and in ill-health, was jailed for two years and nine months by Justice Graham Panckhurst in the High Court at Christchurch today.

He will be deported after serving his sentence.

Moloney was found guilty at a trial in June on three charges of indecently assaulting boys under 16 and four of inducing them to do indecent acts.

He was acquitted of 16 other similar offences.

Preacher Arrested in Church After Wife's Body Found in Freezer

A small-time evangelist was arrested during a church service Monday after police found a body in his freezer believed to be his wife, a mother of eight.

Anthony Hopkins, 37, is charged with murder and incest after being arrested at a church in Jackson, Ala., during a revival. He was in the Mobile County jail Wednesday awaiting a bond hearing and appointment of an attorney.

Police said that no one reported Hopkins' wife, 36-year-old Arletha Hopkins, missing. Then authorities heard Monday from a relative who reported years of sexual abuse, which sparked the investigation, according to the TV station.

The body was discovered covered in a freezer in a utility room during a police search of the home in Mobile.

Police await results of forensic tests to determine the cause of death, but Mobile Police Chief Phillip Garrett said authorities believe it is Hopkins' wife. The freezer was moved to a forensics lab.

Garrett said Hopkins was arrested at the revival in the Inspirational Tabernacle Church of God in Christ in rural Clarke County, where Hopkins has roots.

"They run in, and they had their guns out," pastor Beverly Jackson told. "I didn't know what was going on. I though it was the alarm system had gone off.”

Jackson told reporters that Hopkins told her he was a single parent because his wife had died in childbirth.

Garrett said Hopkins, the father of six of his wife's eight children, has been charged with rape and sodomy in a separate case involving a female relative and could face more charges involving another relative.

Mobile County District Attorney John Tyson Jr. said the children who lived with Hopkins — who ranged in age from 3 to 19 — have been taken into protective custody by the Department of Human Resources.

"Obviously, this situation has been an ordeal for them," Steve Giardini of the Child Advocacy Center told. "But they're certainly better off than they were, there's no question about that."

Garrett said the Hopkins children were home-schooled. He said Hopkins "kept to himself," and apparently moved from place to place. Neighbors called him "Rev." because he attended church so often, loading the children into a van.

Police said he preached at various churches and did not appear to be affiliated with a particular denomination.

At the church in Jackson, Hopkins was delivering a message about forgiveness that drew encouraging "amens" from the congregation.

Clarke County Sheriff's Chief Investigator Sgt. Ron Baggett said he listened through the church door before assisting in the arrest about 10 p.m. Monday. About 25 people were in the congregation at the time.

Neighbors of the preacher are shocked by the news.

“We sit here all the time and never thought something like that would happen," neighbor Dascher Parker said.

New York State Priest pleads guilty to raping 3 teenage boys

A Franciscan priest from New York has pleaded guilty to charges of raping three teenage boys during overnight trips to Boston in the 1970s and 1980s.

A Suffolk Superior Court judge on Tuesday sentenced Rev. Frank Genevieve to an 8- to 10-year suspended sentence, with 5 years' probation.

Prosecutors said one victim was attacked in the rectory of a Catholic church, and another was attacked in Genevieve's car after a visit to the New England Aquarium.

The 52-year-old priest was a former Franciscan brother at a parish in Troy, N.Y.

As part of his sentence, Genevieve was ordered to have no contact with the victims or any children under 16. He must also register as a sex offender and wear a GPS monitoring device.

ROME'S PERSECUTION OF THE BIBLE AND BIBLE BELIEVERS

During the period when the Roman Catholic Church was in power, she did everything she could to keep the Bible out of the hands of the common people. It was illegal to translate the Bible into the common languages, even though most people could not read the official Catholic Bible because it was in Latin, a language known only to the highly educated. Consider some of the laws Rome made against Bible translation. These began to be made in the 13th century and were in effect through the 19th.

(1) In the year 1215 Pope Innocent III issued a law commanding "that they shall be seized for trial and penalties, WHO ENGAGE IN THE TRANSLATION OF THE SACRED VOLUMES, or who hold secret conventicles, or who assume the office of preaching without the authority of their superiors; against whom process shall be commenced, without any permission of appeal" (J.P. Callender, Illustrations of Popery, 1838, p. 387). Innocent "declared that as by the old law, the beast touching the holy mount was to be stoned to death, so simple and uneducated men were not to touch the Bible or venture to preach its doctrines" (Schaff, History of the Christian Church, VI, p. 723).

(2) The Council of Toulouse (1229) FORBADE THE LAITY TO POSSESS OR READ THE VERNACULAR TRANSLATIONS OF THE BIBLE (Allix, Ecclesiastical History, II, p. 213). This council ordered that the bishops should appoint in each parish "one priest and two or three laics, who should engage upon oath to make a rigorous search after all heretics and their abettors, and for this purpose should visit every house from the garret to the cellar, together with all subterraneous places where they might conceal themselves" (Thomas M'Crie, History of the Reformation in Spain, 1856,

p. 82). They also searched for the illegal Bibles.

(3) The Council of Tarragona (1234) "ORDERED ALL VERNACULAR VERSIONS TO BE BROUGHT TO THE BISHOP TO BE BURNED" (Paris Simms, Bible from the Beginning, p. 1929, 162).

(4) In 1483 the infamous Inquisitor General Thomas Torquemada began his reign of terror as head of the Spanish Inquisition; King Ferdinand and his queen "PROHIBITED ALL, UNDER THE SEVEREST PAINS, FROM TRANSLATING THE SACRED SCRIPTURE INTO THE VULGAR TONGUES, OR FROM USING IT WHEN

TRANSLATED BY OTHERS" (M'Crie, p. 192). For more than three centuries the Bible in the common tongue was a forbidden book in Spain and multitudes of copies perished in the flames, together with those who cherished them.

(5) In England, too, laws were passed by the Catholic authorities against vernacular Bibles. The Constitutions of Thomas Arundel, issued in 1408 by the Archbishop of Canterbury, made this brash demand: "WE THEREFORE DECREE AND ORDAIN THAT NO MAN SHALL, HEREAFTER, BY HIS OWN AUTHORITY, TRANSLATE ANY TEXT OF THE SCRIPTURE INTO ENGLISH, OR ANY OTHER TONGUE, by way of a book, libel, or treatise, now lately set forth in the time of John Wyckliff, or since, or hereafter to be set forth, in part of in whole, privily or apertly, upon pain of greater excommunication, until the said translation be allowed by the ordinary of the place, or, if the case so require, by the council provincial" (John Eadie, The English Bible, vol. 1, 1876, p. 89). Consider Arundel's estimation of the man who gave the English speaking people their first Bible: "This pestilential and most wretched John Wycliffe of damnable memory, a child of the old devil, and himself a child or pupil of Anti-Christ, who while he lived, walking in the vanity of his mind Š crowned his wickedness by translating the Scriptures into the mother tongue" (Fountain, John Wycliffe, p. 45).

(6) Pope Leo X (1513-1521), who railed against Luther's efforts to follow the biblical precept of faith alone and Scripture alone, called the fifth Lateran Council (1513-1517), which charged that no books should be printed except those approved by the Roman Catholic Church. "THEREFORE FOREVER THEREAFTER NO ONE SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO PRINT ANY BOOK OR WRITING WITHOUT A PREVIOUS EXAMINATION, TO BE TESTIFIED BY MANUAL SUBSCRIPTION, BY THE PAPAL VICAR AND MASTER OF THE SACRED PALACE IN ROME, and in other cities and dioceses by the Inquisition, and the bishop or an expert appointed by him. FOR NEGLECT OF THIS THE PUNISHMENT WAS EXCOMMUNICATION, THE LOSS OF THE EDITION, WHICH WAS TO BE BURNED, a fine of 100 ducats to the fabric of St. Peters, and suspension from business for a year" (Henry Lea, The Inquisition of the Middle Ages).

(7) These restrictions were repeated by the Council of Trent in 1546, which placed translations of the Bible, such as the German, Spanish, and English, on its list of prohibited books and forbade any person to read the Bible without a license from a Catholic bishop or inquisitor.

These rules were affixed to the Index of Prohibited Books and were constantly reaffirmed by popes in the 16th, 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. These prohibitions, in fact, have never been rescinded.

Rome's claim to possess authority to determine who can and cannot translate, publish, and read the Bible is one of the most blasphemous claims ever made under this sun.

The attitude of 16th century Catholic authorities toward the Bible was evident from a speech Richard Du Mans delivered at Trent, in which he said "that the Scriptures had become useless, since the schoolmen had established the truth of all doctrines; and though they were formerly

read in the church, for the instruction of the people, and still read in the service, yet they ought not to be made a study, because the Lutherans only gained those who read them" (William M'Gavin, The Protestant, 1846, p. 144). It is true that the Bible leads men away from Roman Catholicism, but this is only because Roman Catholicism is not founded upon the Word of God!

Pope Clement VIII (1592-1605) confirmed the Council of Trent's proclamations against Bible translations (Eadie, History of the English Bible, II, p. 112) and went even further by forbidding licenses to be granted for the reading of the Bible under any conditions (Richard

Littledale, Plain Reasons Against Joining the Church of Rome, 1924, p. 91).

(8) The restrictions against ownership of the vernacular Scriptures were repeated by the popes until the end of the 19th century:

Benedict XIV (1740-1758) confirmed the Council of Trent's proclamations against Bible translations (Eadie, History of the English Bible, II, p. 112) and issued an injunction "that no versions whatever should be suffered to be read but those which should be approved of by the Holy See, accompanied by notes derived from the writings of the Holy Fathers, or other learned and Catholic authors" (D.B. Ray, The Papal Controversy, p. 479).

It was during the reign of Pope Pius VII (1800-1823) that the modern Bible society movement began. The British and Foreign Bible Society was formed in March 1804, the purpose being "to encourage a wider circulation of the Holy Scriptures without note or comment." Other societies were soon created for the same exalted purpose. Germany (1804); Ireland (1806); Canada (1807); Edinburgh (1809); Hungary (1811); Finland, Glasgow, Zurich, Prussia (1812); Russia (1813); Denmark and Sweden (1814); Netherlands, Iceland (1815); America, Norway, and Waldensian (1816); Australia, Malta, Paris (1817); etc. One of the societies began distributing a Polish Bible in Poland. The Pope, instead of praising the Lord that the eternal Word of God was being placed into

the hands of the multitudes of spiritually needy people, showed his displeasure by issuing a bull against Bible Societies on June 29, 1816. The Pope expressed himself as "shocked" by the circulation of the Scriptures in the Polish tongue. He characterized this practice as a "most crafty device, by which the very foundations of religion are undermined," "a pestilence," which he must "remedy and abolish," "a defilement of the faith, eminently dangerous to souls." Pope Pius VII also rebuked Archbishop Buhusz of Mohiley in Russia because of his endorsement of a newly formed Bible society (Kenneth Latourette, The Nineteenth Century in Europe, p. 448). The papal brief, dated September 3, 1816, declared that "if the Sacred Scriptures were allowed in the

vulgar tongue everywhere without discrimination, more detriment than benefit would arise" (Jacobus, Roman Catholic and Protestant Versions Compared, p. 236).

Pope Leo XII (1823-29) issued a bull to the Bishops in Ireland, May 3, 1824, in which he affirmed the Council of Trent and condemned Bible distribution. "It is no secret to you, venerable brethren, that a certain Society, vulgarly called The Bible Society, is audaciously spreading itself through the whole world. After despising the traditions of the holy Fathers, and in opposition to the well-known Decree of the Council of Trent, this Society has collected all its forces, and directs every means to one object,--the translation, or rather the perversion,

of the Bible into the vernacular languages of all nations. ... IF THE SACRED SCRIPTURES BE EVERYWHERE INDISCRIMINATELY PUBLISHED, MORE EVIL THAN ADVANTAGE WILL ARISE THENCE, on account of the rashness of men" (Bull of Leo XII, May 3, 1824; cited from Charles Elliott, Delineation

of Roman Catholicism, 1851, p. 21). This Pope re-published the Index of Prohibited Books on March 26, 1825, and mandated that the decrees of the Council of Trent be enforced against distribution of Scriptures (R.P. Blakeney, Popery in Its Social Aspect, p. 137).

Pope Gregory XVI (1831-46) ratified the decrees of his predecessors, forbidding the free distribution of Scripture. In his encyclical of May 8, 1844, this Pope stated: "Moreover, we confirm and renew the decrees recited above, DELIVERED IN FORMER TIMES BY APOSTOLIC AUTHORITY, AGAINST THE PUBLICATION, DISTRIBUTION, READING, AND POSSESSION OF BOOKS OF THE HOLY SCRIPTURES TRANSLATED INTO THE VULGAR TONGUE" (James Wylie, The Papacy, 1867, p. 182). This encyclical was delivered against Bible societies in general, and mentioned in particular the Christian Alliance, which was formed in 1843 in New York for the purpose of distributing Scriptures.

Pope Pius IX (1846-78) in November 1846 issued an encyclical letter in which he denounced all opponents of Roman Catholicism, among which he included "those insidious Bible Societies." He said the Bible societies were "renewing the crafts of the ancient heretics" by distributing to

"all kinds of men, even the least instructed, gratuitously and at immense expense, copies in vast numbers of the books of the Sacred Scriptures translated against the holiest rules of the Church into various vulgar tongues..." What a horrible crime! Distributing the Scriptures freely to all people! It was Pius IX who had himself and his fellow popes declared "infallible" at the Vatican I Council in 1870.

Pope Leo XIII (1878-1903) published an "Apostolic Constitution" in 1897 which stated: "All versions of the vernacular, even by Catholics, are altogether prohibited, unless approved by the Holy See, or published under the vigilant care of the Bishops, with annotations taken from the

Fathers of the Church and learned Catholic writers" (Melancthon Jacobus, Roman Catholic and Protestant Bibles, p. 237).

Where the Roman Catholic Church held power the Bible was always scarce. Consider a few examples: When the government of New Orleans was taken over in 1803, "it was not till after a long search for a Bible to administer the oath of office that a Latin Vulgate was at last procured from a priest" (William Canton, The Bible and the Anglo-Saxon People, I, p. 245). In Quebec, as late as 1826, MANY PEOPLE HAD NEVER HEARD OF THE NEW TESTAMENT (Canton, II, 61). The situation was the same in South America, where "for about three centuries, were almost entirely without the Bible." It was 1831 before the first Bible was printed in Spanish America, and even then the copies were exorbitantly expensive (Canton, II, 347). Thus, even when Catholic authorities finally printed some Bibles, they were priced far beyond the reach of most people. Between

December 1907 and February 1908 a diligent search was made to determine how many Bibles were available in Catholic Ireland. Not a portion of the Bible was available in bookshops in Athlone, Balbriggan, Drogheda, Mullingar, Wexford, and Clonmel. A shop assistant at Mullingar said, "I never saw a Catholic Bible." When asked about the New Testament, a sales person at the The Catholic Truth Society replied, "We don't keep it." Those who did the extensive survey concluded "that IN NINE TENTHS OF THE CITIES, TOWNS, AND VILLAGES OR IRELAND A ROMAN CATHOLIC COULD NOT

PROCURE A COPY OF THE ROMAN CATHOLIC BIBLE OR NEW TESTAMENT" (Alexander Robertson, The Papal Conquest, 1909, pp. 166-167).

These facts uncover only the tip of iceberg in regard to Rome's attitude toward the Bible in former times.

Hot under the collar: Hypocrisy and The New Age dogs US religion

San Francisco - A survey last year by LifeWay Research, a US Christian think-tank, revealed that a majority of adults who said they believed in God never went to church. The reason: 72 per cent of non-churchgoers said they thought the church 'was full of hypocrites.'

Another survey by Barna Group, a Christian survey organization, found that young adults in particular are rejecting the institution - and Christianity in general - because it is perceived to be anti-gay, too political and hypocritical.

'You see the mistakes of prominent [Christian] leaders,' said David Kinnaman, president of The Barna Group, 'and that solidifies people's perspectives about Christians as hypocrites or living hypocritical lifestyles.'

In fact, given the spate of negative incidents that have dogged the church in recent years it's a wonder that just 72 per cent of non-churchgoers have such negative opinions. Some might say that given the litanies of misconduct by prominent church leaders in recent years it's a wonder how many church institutions survive at all.

The most damning cases involve the thousands of acts of sex abuse committed by Catholic priests in the US, and the role of leading church officials to hush up the crimes. This attempt to protect the perpetrators and hide the abuse often involved shuffling suspect priests from one parish to another, where they found themselves able to exploit a whole new pool of victims.

The numbers involved are simply staggering. The John Jay Report, commissioned by the US Conference of Catholic Bishops in 2004, found accusations against 4,392 priests in the US, equaling about 4 per cent of all US priests between 1950 and 2002.

The report also found that most allegations of abuse were never reported to police by bishops - and 95 per cent of the priests were never charged with a crime. Nearly 30 per cent of the victims were abused for two to four years, while an additional 10 percent were abused for up to nine

years. Just 149 priests - serial paedophiles - abused 2,960, or 27 per cent, of the children.

But the Catholic church was far from the only Christian institution to be hit by sexual scandal. One of the country's most influential Evangelicals, the Reverend Ted Haggard was forced to resign as leader of the New Life megachurch in 2006, after it emerged that he had paid a male prostitute for sex and drugs over a three year period.

Haggard was also forced to resign the presidency of the influential National Association of Evangelicals an umbrella group representing more than 45,000 churches with 30 million members.

The man who Haggard was involved with said he decided to come forward because of Haggard's support for a state constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage in Colorado.

'He is up there preaching that marriage should only be between a man and a woman, and he's going behind his wife's back and seeing a gay man for sex,' said Mike Jones. 'I felt like I owed it to the gay community to expose the hypocrisy.'

The scandal continued the following year when Earl Paulk, the 80- year-old leader of a Georgia megachurch was revealed to have slept with his brother's wife and fathered her child. The expose that he was actually the father of his supposed nephew came after a court- ordered paternity

test in connection with the lawsuit of another woman who claimed Paulk manipulated her into a four year affair by telling her it was her only path to salvation.

Given such actions it's not surprising that a poll in June by the independent Pew Centre found Americans to be as spiritual as ever - but with the vast majority carving out individual belief frameworks.

'Americans are deeply suspicious of institutional religion,' saidstudy author John Green. 'Some see religion as about money, rules and power. That's not a positive connotation for everyone.'

'Americans believe in anything and everything. It's a spiritual salad bar,' commented sociologist Michael Lindsay of Rice University. 'Rather than religious leaders setting the cultural agenda it's Oprah Winfrey and her New Age Beliefs.'

Oprah's New Age 'gospel,' influence concerns Christians

Part of the evangelicals' concern stems from Oprah Winfrey's recent embrace of Eckhart Tolle's A New Earth as the first spiritual book she included in her hugely popular book club.

Oprah Winfrey has become a catalyst for a new journalistic project and increasing news coverage by conservative Christians questioning and criticizing her spiritual beliefs.

Evangelical Christians have voiced alarm that Winfrey is introducing the 46 million viewers who watch her each week to nontraditional spirituality they don't condone.

In May, two dozen Christian newspapers pooled their resources to publish an article titled "Oprah's 'gospel'" that prompted higher readership and more letters to the editor than any story some of the individual papers had ever published.

In a first-of-its-kind venture, the evangelical newspapers hired Colorado writer and editor Steve Rabey to write the story.

"For some Christians who have considered themselves part of Oprah's electronic family, her sins against evangelical orthodoxy have increased in number and seriousness," Rabey said.

In recent months, Southern Baptist newspaper editors also have written editorials declaring "It's time for Christians to 'just say no' to the big 'O'" and calling her a source of "foolish twitter and twaddle." And Charisma, a prominent charismatic and Pentecostal magazine, ran a story in its July issue with the headline "Oprah's Strange New Gospel.'"

Lamar Keener, publisher of the Christian Examiner regional newspapers in California, came up with the idea to work with a dozen "mom and pop" publishers to address Winfrey's theology.

"Our point is we want our readers to be aware that what she is teaching does not represent traditional, historical Christianity, according to the Scriptures," said Keener, who also is president of the Evangelical Press Association.

Twenty-three monthly papers from across the country and Canada published the story and distributed 500,000 copies to churches, Christian bookstores, doughnut shops and other outlets.

Keener was inspired after viewing a video titled "The Church of Oprah Exposed," which has had more than 7.2 million hits on YouTube.

"It's taking actual clips off programs," Keener said. "That's what got my attention."

One of Winfrey's quotes highlighted in the story is her belief that "there couldn't possibly be just one way" to God.

"One of the mistakes that human beings make is believing that there is only one way to live," Winfrey said.

A spokesman for Winfrey's Harpo Productions said the celebrity is a Christian.

"Oprah was raised Baptist and has stated many, many times that she is a Christian and that she believes in only one God," said the spokesman, who asked not to be named. "She has also said, 'I'm a free-thinking Christian who believes in my way, but I don't believe it's the only way,

with 6 billion people on the planet.'"

The spokesman noted Winfrey is hardly alone; 70% of Americans said "many religions can lead to eternal life" in a recent survey from the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life.

Part of the evangelicals' concern stems from Winfrey's recent embrace of Eckhart Tolle's A New Earth as the first spiritual book she included in her hugely popular book club. In the July issue of O, The Oprah Magazine, she said the book's advice on "putting the ego in check" had a "profound impact" on her.

"Spirit to me is the essence of who we are," she said. "That essence doesn't require any particular belief. It just is."

Charisma editor J. Lee Grady said Winfrey's recent discussions of hypnotism on her show may have prompted more people to question her views.

He has long thought Winfrey did not embrace "an orthodox belief in Jesus Christ," but he thinks other Christians may just be starting to draw that conclusion, sparked in part by what they learn about her on the Internet.

"There's definitely an alarm because so many people watch her, that she could lead people into New Age belief or deception," he said.

Religion writer Marcia Nelson, author of The Gospel According to Oprah, said criticism of Winfrey by conservative Christians dates to 1998 when she included a spiritual emphasis on her TV show.

"Back then she got pretty much lambasted the way she is being lambasted now, for telling us what to believe and telling us the wrong thing to believe in, according to conservative Christians," said Nelson.

But Nelson, who studied a year of Winfrey's shows, differs with those who call Winfrey's spiritual ideas "New Age." She says Winfrey would be more related to the "New Thought" movement, which is more mainstream, focusing on positive thinking as a spiritual tool rather than crystals,

for example.

"I absolutely regard her as a Christian but ... she's one of those capacious Christians," Nelson said.

Catholic Archdiocese of Denver settles majority of sex abuse claims for $5.5 million

Denver Archbishop Charles J. Chaput announced today that the archdiocese has settled nearly all of the claims of sexual abuse by priests through a mediation program, resulting in payments of $5.5 million for 18 separate claims.

At a press conference held at Bonfils Hall on Tuesday morning, Archbishop Chaput explained that all of the lawsuits against the archdiocese were connected to the deceased priests Harold Robert White and Leonard Abercrombie, with one exception. The alleged abuse by the two clerics occurred between the years 1954 and 1981.

The claims of sexual abuse against the two priests began to be made in August of 2005. Upon learning of the accusations, the archdiocese sought to mediate the claims rather than resort to the courts.

27 Catholics arrested in Quebec as Child-porn ring smashed Twenty-seven Catholic men from various parts of the province face child pornography charges after police discovered a group were secretly using a website based in Germany to exchange computer files.

The Surete du Quebec, the provincial police force, began investigating the group in 2006.

"It started in Germany when the owner of an Internet site became aware that people were using his Internet service to exchange child pornography," said Sgt. Joyce Kemp.

The Web site hosted a series of free forum groups and the owner alerted the police after discovering people in one forum group were using it to exchange child pornography files.

The unsolved case of a 15-year-old girl who went missing in Rome 25 years ago has been dramatically reopened.

A woman has told police the girl was kidnapped by a criminal gang on the orders of Archbishop Paul Marcinkus, the disgraced former head of the Vatican's bank who was linked to the death of the Italian banker Roberto Calvi.

The disappearance in June 1983 of Emanuela Orlandi, the daughter of a Vatican employee, has previously been linked by criminal informants to the Rome-based Banda della Magliana gang. But new details supplied by Sabrina Minardi, former girlfriend to the gang's boss, Enrico De Pedis, now ties in the Holy See official.

An Anglican church has held a homosexual "wedding" for the first time in a move that will deepen the rift between liberals and traditionalists.

Two male priests exchanged vows and rings in a ceremony that was conducted using one of the church's most traditional wedding rites – a decision seen as blasphemous by conservatives.

The ceremony broke Church of England guidelines and was carried out last month in defiance of the Bishop of London, in whose diocese it took place.

News of the "wedding" emerged days before a crucial summit of the Anglican Church's conservative bishops and archbishops, who are threatening to split the worldwide Church over the issue of homosexual clergy.

The first openly gay Episcopal bishop and his partner of 20 years have been united in a private civil union.

The Rt. Rev. V. Gene Robinson was legally joined to Mark Andrew, his partner of 20 years, in a civil ceremony Saturday, the Episcopal Diocese of New Hampshire announced.

Civil unions became legal in New Hampshire this year.

The union was performed five years to the day after New Hampshire Episcopalians elected him as their bishop.

Robinson was told last year that he could not fully participate in the once-a-decade gathering in England as the world Anglican Communion has been on the brink of schism over his 2003 election.

Priest sentenced for groping sheriff on nude beach

Catholic clergy convicted of sex crime condemned Americans for 'sinfulness'

A Catholic priest has been sentenced to three years of probation after he pleaded no contest to groping an undercover male sheriff deputy at a nude beach in California.

Authorities said Rev. Geronimo Enrique Cuevas, 52, was hiding in bushes near a trail leading to the beach at Pirate's Cove, where they discovered him masturbating.

When a male deputy approached Cuevas, the priest reached out and touched the agent's genitals, investigators said.

Rev. Geronimo Enrique Cuevas, associate pastor at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Nipomo, has been on administrative leave from his parish while the church investigates the incident, the San Luis Obispo County website reports.

Pope tells young people to trust in Mary

At a meeting with young people in the northern Italian city of Savona, Pope Benedict XVI recited the Angelus prayer with the young people and invited them to trust in Mary.

He recalled the words the Virgin Mary spoke to shepherd Benedict Pareto in the year 1400 urging him to build a shrine on Mount Figogna, the place where she appeared.

Benedict Pareto, according to tradition, was worried because he did not know how to respond to Mary’s invitation to build a church in a place so remote from the city.

The Pope repeated the Virgin Mary’s words: “Trust in me! With me in your midst you will not fail. With my help everything will be easy. Only keep your will firm. Trust in me!”

Canadian Lutheran church to ordain first gay pastor

A CANADIAN Lutheran church said it was to ordain its first gay pastor, who is married to another man, despite likely sanctions for breaking church teachings.

"The people of Holy Cross have issued a call to Lionel Ketola to serve as associate pastor,'' the Toronto-area church said on its website.

It said the ordination is "in violation of the ELCIC (Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada)'s discriminatory policy of excluding 'self-declared and practicing homosexuals' from the office of ordained ministry.''

But regardless, the church said it would ordain and hire Ketola.

The ordination of an openly gay Lutheran pastor would be a first in Canada, following more than a dozen such ordinations in the United States, said reports.

Minister arrested

Rev. Joe Barron, a minister at one of Texas' largest megachurches was arrested after driving his wife's car 200 miles for a planned liaison with a 13-year-old girl he met on the Internet.

Bryan police said Barron had been chatting online for about two weeks with an officer who he thought was a 13-year-old girl, participating in sexually explicit conversations.

Police are investigating evidence Barron may have had similar online conversations with more than a dozen minor girls.

A desktop computer, two laptops, numerous computer disks and memory cards have been seized.

Unitarian Minister: 'I make it look like they died in their sleep'

Reverend George Exoo is a leading figure in the right-to-die movement.

He says he has helped 102 people to commit suicide.

But, most of his clients were not terminally ill, just depressed and in need of psychiatric help.

The Irish police were seeking the arrest and extradition of the Reverend George Exoo and his partner Thomas McGurrin, of Beckley, West Virginia, for the crime of assisting a suicide, which, under Irish law, carries a maximum prison sentence of 14 years.

"I've never done anything as important as this in my ministry," Exoo has said. "I think it's the reason I was placed on this planet. I'm a midwife to the dying, for those who want to hasten their deaths."

He says he has assisted 102 people in their deaths.

He admits the person killing themselves often tries to involuntarily remove the apparatus once they're unconscious, and he has to hold their hands down.

Priest who was chaplain gets 4 years for sex with inmates

FORT WORTH, Texas - A Roman Catholic priest was sentenced Monday to four years in prison for having sex with two inmates while a chaplain at a women's prison.

Vincent Inametti, 48, worked at Federal Medical Center Carswell in Fort Worth for seven years until last fall. He pleaded guilty in November to two counts of sexual abuse of a ward.

U.S. District Judge Terry Means said Inametti had violated trust as an employee of the federal prison _ and as a priest.

"For this he will face a higher authority than this one," Means said.

Both women were serving federal sentences for drug distribution conspiracy convictions. One met Inametti in 2004 after attending church services and becoming involved in the prison choir and Bible study classes, authorities said.

The other met Inametti a few months later while working as a clerk for the prison's religious services department.

Inametti is a naturalized U.S. citizen who was ordained in his native country, Nigeria.

Apostate Methodists attend gay marriage ceremony near church convention

More than 200 Methodists attended a lesbian couple's commitment ceremony Friday in defiance of a vote to uphold a church law that says gay relationships are "incompatible with Christian teaching."

The ceremony was at a park across from the Fort Worth Convention Center, where some 3,000 people are meeting for the United Methodist Church's general conference. It is held every four years to set church policy.

Earlier this week, Methodists rejected replacing a sentence in its Book of Discipline which says the church "does not condone the practice of homosexuality" with other phrases, including one saying Christians differ on the issue.

United Methodists Engage in Transgender Talks

Hundreds of United Methodists have begun looking over some 1,500 petitions that have been proposed by those seeking change in church policies and structures, among other things, during the church's quadrennial gathering.

Much of the media spotlight, however, has fallen on two submitted petitions aimed at changing the United Methodist Church's current position on homosexuality.

The church body holds that the practice of homosexuality is incompatible with Christian teaching. One petition would state that homosexuality is a subject about which Christians disagree and the other would define marriage as the union of two loving adults.

To support gay and transgender church members, young Methodists from the Mosaic Youth Network are holding a 24-hour "drumming and rally," which began Friday at noon, outside the Fort Worth Conference Center in Texas, where the United Methodist General Conference is taking place.

Recent General Conferences have seen protests by gay-rights advocates, some of whom were arrested for disrupting proceedings.

Debates on whether gay Christians can be ordained as clergy have gone on for decades in the denomination and most recently, controversy has erupted over transgendered persons.

The Rev. Drew Phoenix, pastor of St. John's United Methodist Church in Baltimore, sparked debate when the transgender minister was allowed last year to remain pastor of the church.

Anglican Bishop and Female Vicar quit over immoral relationship

The Right Rev Carl Cooper, 47, resigned yesterday as Bishop of St Davids in West Wales rather than go through a formal inquiry into the nature of his relationship with the Rev Mandy Williams-Potter, 38, who has also quit her post.

There had been growing concern among parishioners about the bishop's relationship with Mrs. Williams-Potter, who worked as his chaplain and communications officer, since they traveled to Uganda to help with a water scheme last year.

Floor collapsed 'like an elevator' at B.C. church, witnesses say

Felicia Daase had little choice but to watch in horror as her friends plunged "like an elevator" through the floor of a local church during a Christian rock concert in this British Columbia community late Friday night.

Several dozen people were injured at Abbotsford's Central Heights Church, where a mostly teenage audience of about 1,200 gathered to watch a popular Christian rock band, when people were sent falling several meters into the basement below.

Seconds later, the large lighting and sound system. which was attached to a metal stand extending up from the floor, toppled over onto audience members as the wood beneath it gave way, witnesses said.

"The whole floor just went down, kind of like an elevator, it just went straight down," Felicia Daase said Saturday from her home in nearby Chilliwack.

UK vicar applies for drinks license for his church

The Reverend Geraint ap Iorwerth joked that there were plans to serve more than just spirits, though, with lager and wine on the menu too.

I would love to think that at certain times of the year people could come down in the evening to have a drink.

He said he might also open a bar with proper pub-style pumps in a new church cafe in the future.

But at the moment the license is needed to sell and serve drinks at parish functions such as concerts, weddings or christenings.

The vicar will go to magistrates' court next month to apply for the license.

Superstitious await display of Catholic mystic's body

SAN GIOVANNI ROTONDO, Italy - Superstitious Pilgrims gathered to pray on Wednesday in a small town in southern Italy abuzz with anticipation for the moment when the exhumed body of a revered mystic monk would be put on display.

The body of the friar, who died in 1968 and was said to have had the stigmata -- the wounds of Jesus's crucifixion on his hands and feet -- will be placed in a glass coffin in San Giovanni Rotondo on Thursday.

Some believers also say Padre Pio was able to predict future events, was seen in two places at once and could tell people their sins before they confessed them to him.

Pope John Paul II made him a saint in 2002 at a ceremony attended by one of the biggest crowds ever in the Vatican after the Church said it had found evidence that the miraculous cure of a sick woman was the result of intercession by the dead monk.

However, he was dogged during his life and after his death by accusations that he was a fraud.

A new book last year suggested he was a self-harming man who might have used carbolic acid to cause wounds in his hands mimicking those of Jesus when he was nailed to the cross.

Church officials have denied that he was a fake.

THE DELUSIONS OF MADAME GUYON

Jeanne-Marie Bouvier de la Motte-Guyon (1648-1717), commonly known as Madame Guyon, was a Roman Catholic mystic who lived in France.

Guyon wanted to enter a convent when she was a girl but her parents would not allow it and arranged her marriage to a 37-year-old man when she was only 15. It was an unhappy marriage and she turned increasingly to her mystical experiences and a search for "union with God."

After he husband died when she was 28 years old, she gave herself wholly to her mystical pursuits. She joined a group of ascetic Catholics led by a Barnabite monk named Francios La Combe. She toured parts of France, Switzerland, and Italy for five years with La Combe, from 1681-86.

La Combe taught that meditation of God requires a passive (quiet) state of contemplation that goes beyond the level of the conscious thinking process.

It was an extreme type of mysticism that became known as Quietism:

"The school of mysticism that Guyon adhered to, sometimes called Quietism, was an extreme form of Roman Catholic mysticism that emphasized the cleansing of one's inner life and included the belief that one could see Christ visibly.

***WATCHMAN... There is much of this OCCULT/SATANIC MYSTICISM permeating today's churches...

Before Guyon's day, in the Middle Ages, this took strange forms in erotic 'bride mysticism' with some visionaries believing they were married to Jesus.

Guyon and the Quietists went further, into something called essence mysticism.

They believed that their being was merged with God's being and the two became one.

This unbiblical idea survives today in the New Age and other non-Christian religions. ... She taught that we can know of God by 'passing forward into God,' going into a mindless, meditative state where we can get in touch with the Christ within the self, merge with that Christ and be lifted into ecstasy" (G. Richard Foster, The Mindless Mysticism of Madame Guyon).

Guyon claimed that she went through a series of spiritual states by means of her ascetically driven mystical experiences.

These are the same type of states that Catholic mystics have always promoted.

The first, which she called "union of the powers," lasted eight years.

During this time, she felt drawn to God alone and drawn away from people.

The second state, which she called "mystical death," lasted seven years, during which she had a feeling of detachment from God and was plagued with deep mental depression and thoughts of hell and judgment.

***WATCHMAN... these very obviously came from SATANIC POWERS...

She frequently had dark, weird dreams, which she considered a form of revelation.

In the third state, which she called "the apostolic state," she claimed that she was absorbed into and united with God.

During this time, she preached, but she did not preach the gospel; she preached mystical

experiences.

As she fasted to the extreme and often went without sleep, her mystical experiences increased.

She experienced what she thought was union with the essence of God.

She had mental delusions or demonic visitations such as envisioning "horrible faces in blueish light."

She went into trances, which would leave her unable to speak for days.

During some trances, she wrote things that she believed were inspired (Guyon, An Autobiography,

p. 321-324).

***WATCHMAN... this is called CHANNELING a form of WITCHCRAFT that calls upon DEMONIC SPIRITS...

This is automatic writing, and she was doubtless influenced by demons.

She claimed that she and La Combe could communicate with one another for hours without speaking verbally.

She believed she could speak in the language of angels.

In 1688, she was arrested on heresy charges and imprisoned in a convent for several months.

In December 1695, she was again imprisoned, this time for seven years.

Released in March 1703, she spent the final 15 years of her life in silence and isolation on the estate of her son-in-law.

THE POPULARITY OF GUYON'S WRITINGS

After her death, Guyon's works were published by a Dutch Protestant pastor named Poiret.

In the 1700s, her books were popular among some Lutherans, Methodists, and Moravians.

Today they are popular throughout evangelicalism and even among many fundamentalists.

For many decades, Moody Press has published an edition of Madam Guyon's Autobiography.

It contains no disclaimer of Guyon's spiritual and doctrinal errors.

In fact, the introduction states, "We offer no word of apology for publishing the autobiography of Madame Guyon, those expressions of devotion to her church, that found vent in her writings."

At its online web site, Campus Crusade compares Madame Guyon's Autobiography with John Bunyon's Pilgrim's Progress and recommends it without reservation.

On visits to evangelical colleges and seminaries, it has been noticed that Madame Guyon's works are featured prominently in the bookstores and are used in courses on spirituality.

Madame Guyon was included in the book Women Used of God by Ed Reese.

The Joyful Woman magazine ran a half-page ad for the book in the September-October 1994 issue.

The book contains brief biographies of 50 "Women Leaders of the Christian Cause" and is described as "Ideal for young people (especially girls) looking for role models."

FOLLOWING ARE SOME OF HER ERRORS:

She employed pagan methods of emptying the mind in meditation and prayer.

One of the types of prayer taught by Guyon was a form of meditation whereby the soul is emptied of all self-desire and interest and passively awaits possession by God.

This is exactly like Hinduism.

Madame Guyon believed that her mystical experiences would "devour all that was left of self" and that she would be rid of "troublesome faults" (Guyon, p. 73).

She believed she could achieve a complete union with God by being absorbed into God, a pagan concept.

She spent her life looking within herself and seeking mystical experiences.

Madame Guyon thought she was caught up with God, but really, she was caught up with herself.

Beware of Madame Guyon and other Catholic mystics.

They are not the wise pattern for prayer and spirituality that God's people need.

ONCE UPON A TIME IN TODAY'S END TIMES WORLD THERE WAS A REAL LIFE FAIRY TALE: Oprah and Eckhart Do the New Age Shift and it goes like this...

"The good old minister went into the room where the swindlers sat before the empty looms.

‘Heaven preserve us!’ he thought, and opened his eyes wide, 'I cannot see anything at all,' but he did not say so.

Both swindlers requested him to come near, and asked him if he did not admire the exquisite pattern and the beautiful colors, pointing to the empty looms.

The poor old minister tried his very best, but he could see nothing, for there was nothing to be seen. ‘Oh dear,’ he thought, ‘can I be so stupid? I should never have thought so, and nobody must know it!

Is it possible that I am not fit for my office? No, no, I cannot say that I was unable to see the cloth.'"

In the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” some swindlers convince the Emperor and his ministers to see a suit of clothes that is actually non-existent.

These swindlers convince the Emperor and his ministers by telling them that only “intelligent,”

well-informed citizens can see the suit.

Publicity about the Emperor’s “new” suit went out unto all the kingdom as people were told what they were supposed to see.

The people realized that if they were to be perceived as “smart” and not seem “stupid” they would see this suit of clothes.

And, of course, no one wanted to be perceived as stupid.

Soon it was publicized throughout the kingdom that the Emperor would be showing off his “new” suit of clothes in a public procession several days hence.

When the day came, the naked Emperor walked among his people and received unanimous acclaim for his new suit of clothes. The people saw what they had been told to see.

“Isn’t it absolutely wonderful,” all the people proclaimed. “The emperor is all dressed up in his new suit of clothes.”

Everyone was so taken by the Emperor’s “new” suit of clothes, that they barely heard the little boy who hadn’t been told what he was supposed to see.

“But the emperor isn’t wearing any clothes,” said the lad. “The emperor is naked.”

Several people heard the boy and realized that what he was saying was true.

Suddenly everyone’s eyes were opened and they realized they had been tricked into seeing something that wasn’t even there. The Emperor wasn’t wearing a new suit of clothes.

He was as naked as the day that he was born. Swindlers had deceived the Emperor, his ministers, and almost the whole kingdom with their clever scheme.

***WATCHMAN... So you think that could only happen in a fairy tale do you... continuing...

And so it is with the “New” Age/”New” Spirituality and Oprah Winfrey.

Widely regarded as the “Queen” of the airwaves, Oprah has been deceived into seeing a “New” Age/”New” Spirituality “suit of clothes” that simply isn’t there.

The Queen’s advisors – Eric Butterworth, Maya Angelou, Marianne Williamson, Gary Zukav, Neale Donald Walsch, Esther Hicks, Eckhart Tolle, and countless others -- have all been similarly deceived into seeing this “new” way of looking at themselves and the world.

Deceived and deceiving, they in turn convinced the Queen that she and everyone in her kingdom just needed to “shift” past their “egos” and “awaken” to the fact that they were already clothed in “Christ” – that they were already wearing this “new” suit from the New Age/New Spirituality wardrobe.

All they had to do was accept and affirm the “God” and “Christ” within.

The Queen was very excited. She said she would help everyone “awaken” and “shift” to this new “Christ consciousness” – this “new” way of “seeing” themselves and their world.

Being a sympathetic and caring person, she wanted the whole world to see what she and her advisors were seeing – that everyone was divine and clothed in this “Christ consciousness.”

She knew that if this “New” Age/”New” Spirituality suit of clothes was presented properly, all the wise and well-informed people would “see” her point of view and “get it.”

They would “awaken” as she and Marianne Williamson and Eckhart Tolle had.

If everyone would just “awaken” and “shift” to this new way of seeing themselves, then everything in the kingdom could be made right again.

With this “Great Awakening,” all of humanity could spiritually evolve and world peace could finally be achieved.

So with great fanfare and publicity, the Queen went on the worldwide web don't ya see and told everyone in the world that what she and Eckhart Tolle were teaching was the most exciting thing she had ever done.

On her first Internet class, the Queen told her enthusiastic followers that there was nothing more important than “awakening” to the “New” Spirituality – that we are all clothed in “Christ” and that we are all dressed in this same suit of clothes because we are all “God” and we are all “Christ.”

She was hopeful everyone would see the world as “A New Earth” the way she and Eckhart, and all of her New Age colleagues, saw it.

But she was worried about the people who were not smart enough to see that they were “God” and “Christ.”

So then she told everyone in her first Internet class if there isn’t a shift, God only knows what will happen to us.

***WATCHMAN... Let me break in here to say the GOD OPHRA refers to when she says the word GOD is NOT our SPIRITUAL Heavenly Father the "I AM" but her EARTHLY SPIRITUAL FATHER called the lord Miatira(sp?) or SATAN.

The Queen’s urgency let everyone know that it was really important that they have the “awakening” and make the “shift” to the “Christ” within.

She was very charismatic and very convincing as she made it clear that the well-being of the planet depended on everyone seeing themselves as “God” and “Christ.”

She and Eckhart warned that people would either be smart and evolve, or they would die.

But it wasn’t a little boy who warned the Queen that she was being greatly deceived – NO NO NO - the warnings were from the one true God that had created her.

His Holy Bible warned her not to be deceived by false prophets and false Christ's that claimed that “Christ” was within every person.

His Scriptures made it clear that Jesus Christ was the one and only true Christ.

But the Queen wasn’t listening to the words of the Bible.

She was listening to Eckhart Tolle, Marianne Williamson and her New Age colleagues.

COMMENTS: Oprah has done her job well. For over twenty years she has enthusiastically and consistently communicated her New Age beliefs through countless New Age authors.

Marilyn Ferguson and all those in the “Aquarian Conspiracy” must be very proud of her.

Thanks to Oprah’s high visibility and continued popularity, “the great heretical idea” that “God” and “Christ” are within everyone has been “widely communicated” and is fast becoming our “new consensus” and “what everyone knows.”

This ten-week class that she is teaching with Eckhart Tolle is the culmination of all that Oprah has sought to teach her viewers over the years about the New Age and how to see the world anew.

But like the Emperor and his “new” suit of clothes, Oprah has been greatly deceived by her New Spirituality.

Sadly, if Oprah and her colleagues continue down the path of the New Age/New Spirituality, they will -YES THEY WILL - experience an “awakening” some day, but it will not be the “Great Awakening” they anticipated.

Instead it will be a rude awakening come Judgment Day.

On that day they will suddenly realize that God is God and they are not, and they never were.

They will realize that Jesus Christ is Lord and that He is the one and only Christ, and there is no “Christ” within.

They will see that they were deceived and that the Lord Jesus Christ really meant it when he said, “Take heed that no man deceive you.

For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many” (Matthew 24:4-5).

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers having itching ears;

And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.” (2 Timothy 4:3-4)

Girls groomed for sex with men at polygamist Mormon sect in Texas

HUNDREDS of young girls removed from a polygamist sect in Texas were being groomed to accept sex with adult men as soon as they reached puberty, officials said in court records released today.

Girls as young as 13 were "spiritually married'' to men on the compound and forced to have sex with them "for the purpose of having children,'' according to an affidavit by an investigator with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.

A number of young girls who were pregnant or had recently given birth were discovered on the ranch after a desperate call for help was made by a 16-year-old girl who was pregnant again just eight months after giving birth to the child of her 50-year-old husband.

"There is a pervasive pattern and practice of indoctrinating and grooming minor female children to accept spiritual marriages to adult male members of the YFZ (Yearn For Zion) Ranch resulting in them being sexually abused,'' investigator Lynn McFadden told the court.

"Similarly, minor boys residing on the YFZ Ranch, after they become adults, are spiritually married to minor female children and engage in sexual relationships with them, resulting in them being sexual perpetrators,'' she said.

"This pattern and practice places all of the children located at the YFZ Ranch, both male and female, to risk of emotional, physical and/or sexual abuse.''

More than 400 children were removed from the 688ha ranch owned by the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints during a days-long raid which began last Thursday.

They are being held in a historic fort in nearby San Angelo, Texas along with more than 130 women, most of them mothers, who left the compound.

Catholic Church forced 6000 to work for Nazis

GERMANY'S Roman Catholic Church exploited nearly 6000 forced laborers in the Nazi era, it says in a report detailing a dark chapter in its history.

In 2000, the church in 2000 acknowledged its use of forced labor under Hitler, and has paid 1.5 millions euros in compensation to foreign workers, but the report Forced Labor and the Catholic Church 1939-1945 is the most thorough look at the issue so far.

The 703-page official report documents the fate of 1075 prisoners of war and 4829 civilians who were forced to work for the Nazis in nearly 800 Catholic institutions - mainly hospitals, homes and monastery gardens to boost the war effort.

The church, which has financed over 200 "reconciliation" projects, said final numbers will never be known.

"It should not be concealed that the Catholic Church was blind for too long to the fate and suffering of men, women and children from the whole of Europe who were carted off to Germany as forced laborers," Karl Lehmann, the country's top Catholic prelate until mid-February, said at

the book's presentation.

Catholics were subject to control under the Nazis but aside from some notable figures from both churches who voiced opposition, they broadly went along with the regime.

Hitler's feared SS expropriated more than 300 monasteries and Catholic institutions between 1940 and 1942 and thousands of Catholics were sent to concentration camps, said Karl-Joseph Hummel, co-author of the book.

He told a televised news conference in the western city of Mainz the term "cooperative antagonism" summed up the Church's strategy at the time.

The report said a large proportion of the workers - mostly from Poland, Ukraine and the then Soviet Union - were forced to help the Nazi war effort in military hospitals which would not have kept going without their labor.

In 1962 independent Baptist radio preacher Oliver B. Greene preached a series of 25 messages on "The Wrath of God".

My, how preaching has changed!

This is what America needs: twenty-five messages on God's wrath from every Bible-believing pulpit in the land.

Following is an excerpt from Green's first message: "I have preached love, grace, justification, and salvation, but I must not be a one-sided preacher; I must preach it all.

Consider Deuteronomy 32. 'See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.

... If I whet my glittering sword, and mine hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to mine enemies, and will reward them that hate me" (Deut. 32:39, 41).

Now beloved, I'm not hateful and I'm not sarcastic, but that doesn't sound like the liberal and the modernist of today.

I heard a fellow on the radio the other day saying, 'God is good.'

Yes, God is good, but let's also tell them that God is a consuming fire.

God has a real sword that he uses in judgment against those that hate him.

You say, 'I don't hate God.'

You can't serve two masters.

You are either for God or you are against him. There is no neutrality.

My friends, I love you, but I can't compromise the Word of God to keep your friendship.

I can't sell my message for your support.

I'd rather go off the radio tomorrow than to sell the gospel down the drain for fame or fortune.

In Deuteronomy 32 we have a vivid description of a God that can be angry, that can use the sword, that can use arrows drunk with blood, a God that in His own words said, 'I kill' and 'none can deliver out of my hand.'

I warn you. God is a consuming fire.

God is angry with the wicked every day, and the wages of sin is death.

It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of a living God.

Why don't you fall into the arms of Jesus right now?

There is no refuge from God's wrath but in Jesus Christ."

Priest 'made £3m from fake exorcisms

A senior Catholic priest in Florence is under investigation for fraud after allegedly amassing £3 million by performing fake exorcisms.

Prosecutors said that Father Francesco Saverio Bazzoffi would "stage shows" at the House of the Sainted Archangels, an organization he founded.

During the events, which regularly attracted crowds of over 400 people, a number of associates would "pretend to be possessed by demons" and Fr Bazzoffi would allegedly exorcise them using ancient and obscure rites.

He would then offer to "heal" members of the audience who were sick, and solicit donations to his organization.
